Dolly video tutorial

I made a short video offering tips and advice on building a simple DIY dolly. The plans I worked with were just a little ambiguous on a couple of points so I thought I'd share my insight with others as a way of saying "thank you" to everyone who shares their advice with me.

You can read the post and see the film at http://robertkerner.wordpress.com/

or go directly to the video at http://www.vimeo.com/5264606

Thanks
Bob

My DIY adapter

A few peope pm'd me asking what type of adapter I used to get the raw, grainy footage in my This Old Dolly tutorial.

I updated my blog with pix and explanation of my DIY adapter, which I was able to assemble for less than $100.

drilling a hole in that angle part of the metal has to be a pain... is there not an angled piece of metal that is flat at the peak perhaps?

how about some tips on the best way to join two lengths of PVC together to make a longer run without the "bump" while rolling over the joint

I have seen some tutorials where the wheels are offset from each other (none are directly across from the other) down the entire rail and some use 8 of them per rail. I would assume that this would help with any bumps. I am getting ready to build 2 of these.

Nicely produced video, but I've got one question: None of the roller blade wheels that I've encountered take a 1/4-20 bolt as you describe. The hole in the middle of the bearing is BIGGER than a 1/4 inch, so a 1/4 20 bolt rattles around in the middle. It's possible to make this work, but it takes some luck to get it centered.

Did you find that this was a problem, or do your bearings have exactly 1/4 inch holes?

Skate wheels have the correct size but the roller blade wheels are definitely bigger. Yo umay just have to take the wheels with you to the hardware store to match up. And get a bigger drill bit. Also it's a really good idea before you drill or cut to put the roller blade wheels side by side so you see the spacing. It's a lot different than with the skateboard wheels becasue of the diameter.
