Dolly test

that's a great dolly there man. gets the job done smoothly, that's all that matters. It's amazing how much production value you get by just using a smooth dolly shot. Great job on it! Maybe I should make one... or be lazy and buy one.. I don't know. You have anywhere the plans on how yours was made?

hey citycyclone...

It's a modified design from the killer cranes and camera rigs book, Much smoother (and sturdier) that the one in the book. But that's a great starting point. I'll post some more pics of it soon.

I recently purchased the dvcamerarigs book and I am considering building something similar. What was your final costs for the dolly and mini crane? Did you construct the dolly from the plans in the book? I am working on a different design for the crane portion. I love the dolly shot thru the car windows on the website. Dan said he did it with conduit and a small version of the dolly.

A couple of other questions. Have you used it indoors? On carpet? Outside in the grass? Sorry for the questions but I am about to start construction. I hope the local Wally world has some inline skates on sale.

Coffee,

I'll post some better pics soon.

Big Magic,

Total costs was about 180.00. Tested it on the grass and it's smooth as silk. (only had one set of track though.) Haven't hauled it indoors yet...so I can't comment on carpeting...but if it works great on grass...I don't see why it wouldn't on carpet. The dolly was contructed from plans in the book...to a point. we used thicker board to hold the weight of a DP, added a lip, reinforced the wheel brace. Legthend the wheel assembly so that when removed from the track it wouldn't sit on the wheels but on the steel bracket.
