i film snowboard/ski videos and want to buy a dolly and a crane. my tripod i have right now is an 055XB legs and a 501HDV head and that can support about 13 lbs. i want to get the glidecam dolly and the glidecam crane. but since the crane goes on the tripod which weighs 19 lbs. does that mean my tripod wont be able to support that weight.

your tripod definitely will not be able to handle the weight, and it would be really rough on your head also.

Instead of buying a dolly, use the money to get some sturdy legs, and build your own dolly for $100.

I do know a great dolly that sells for less than the glidecam but works just as well..if not better.
PM me.

the glidecam crane doesn't use your tripod head. It screws straight to the legs or bowl.
Not a bad crane for the money. I've used it lots of time and can't believe what it pulls off for only $400

oh and then you can use the tripod head to mount your camera on the crane mount....
