How can I decrease the depth of field with the stock camera and lense. I would like the background to be more blury.

Thanks

you want to decrease the depth of field actually, and sorry for the short post, but do a search. The topic has been covered extensively.

Really fast:

1. Open the iris as wide as possible.
2. Zoom in as much as you can.
3. Get as close to the subject as you can.
4. Get the background as far away as you can.

There are a couple of illusions that can help make a shot look like there is greater depth blur than is actually optically present. Sometimes the right framing and the right camera motion can add to the sense of depth in the shot.

For example, moving the camera back from the subject and zooming in narrows the background that is visible behind the subject. If the detail is not recognizable, or if it is shadow, it can sometimes appear to be blurred.

Some camera movements can cause motion blur in the background. For example, if the subject is close and the background is far away, moving the camera in a tight arc around the subject can throw the background into a blur.

Also, you can engage an ND filter or increase the shutter speed to enable opening the iris wider. If you raise the shutter speed, you are sacrificing motion blur for better depth blur. Expirementing with exposure in this way can extend the range of conditions where you can get usable depth blur from the camera native lens.
