DOF with Anamorphic??

I was reading that you get a better DOF without the anamorphic... I'm wondering if the difference is that great?
I was planning on buying the anamorphic lense, but DOF is very important for the project I will be working on. I cannot really compare since I don't have the Anamorphic lense. Any suggestions?

Moe, you were probably reading my comments in the Screen Grabs area of this site.

What is the final destination of the project you are working on? If it is just going to be viewed on an NTSC TV or even a large plasma (or equivalent), the anamorphic adaptor is not critical. This is assuming you are shooting in one of the progressive modes.

disjecta, ur right I did read that in ur post :)
I will be working on a short that "might" go on film. I'm really not sure. I thought that it would be better to shoot with the anamorphic lense in case I do decide to transfer to film later. the image quality will be much better if shot with anamorphic, or so I've heard, since I never really tried one. I loved the DOF in ur clip, the whole thing was amazing, I did experiment with the settings of the camera, and I found that you can get the strongest DOF with ND: 1/64 and the iris wide open. I would like to achieve something close to that if I shoot with anamorphic. my question is, can I?

Re: DOF with Anamorphic??

The anamorphic, in and of itself, has practically no effect on DOF... however, for maximum sharpness, it's very difficult to shoot with the anamorphic at wide-open apertures.  You usually need to stop down a few stops.  And that will make for deeper DOF when you use the anamorphic.

I got mine from ProMax. B&H and EVS should probably also carry it.
