DOF Examples

Here are two images from a school assignment. I didn't have a light kit to use, so I just did a simple 3 point lighting setup with some household lamps as best I could.

too bright. too even. too flat.

(hey - at least someone replied to your post for a change)

:grin:

I don't mind it being bright, or even or flat - it depends on what you were trying to achieve :) And I think the post was about the DoF not really the lighting.

I like the use of the glass to add depth. I see there's quite a bit of space compression there (Obviously) what camera were you using, and how far back were the

cam -> peach chair
peach char -> guy?

I think he looks really far away from the peach chair. What if you took the camera back from the chair a few feet and zoomed in. He should appear closer. I would like to see him appear a little closer to the peach chair. Like he is talking to grandma. More intimate. Unless there is a biker dude sitting in the chair. Ha!

But then again it will make the room seem smaller.

LoKey,

I think you did a fine job of demonstrating DOF. What lens were you using? and what was the position of the camera. And what was the distance between items in the frame?

:-)

I thought it was pretty obviously which camera I used... since I am posting this in the "Screen Grabs / Clips of DVX Footage" forum...

HartStudio, I can't move further back, there is a couch and a wall in the way. And all the spacing was intentional. These are merely shots to show a shallow Depth of Field.

Aza, I'd say he was a good 4-5 feet away from the china cabinet. I had to move him far enough away to get that separation, to get the background really out of focus.. gotta love the tricks in filmmaking.
