Can anyone tell me the appropriate circle of confusion value to use for the DVX100b (wth it's standard 4.5 to 45mm focal length) when calculating DOF, assuming the final viewing format is DVD on widescreen TV?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Where did you get the 0.004 figure?

I cant find an online figure, but lining this up with this gives a figure of 0.011 .

If I'm missing something there, let me know.

The CoC can be calculated using the 35mm equiv. spec for the DVX. DVX zoom 4.5mm - 45mm equiv. to 32.5mm - 325mm for 35mm Stil Photography. It's a 7.2x ratio, and the CoC follows, with a CoC for 35mm Still Photography from .025 to .035, depending, use .030 for example.

.030 / 7.2 = .004

Better yet, use the online calculator at the bottom of this page:

http://www.dofmaster.com/digital_coc.html

They don't have the exact focal lengths, but you can get some rough figures in there and the result will be between .003 and .005, usually .004.
