Does Vegas recognize 2:3 or 2:3:3:2 pulldown automatically?

Does Vegas recognize standard and advanced pulldown automatically during capture? or is it supposed to be set to the particular mode before capturing?

Thanks!

It has nothing to do with capture. Vegas recognizes it during editing. So you can capture regular DV footage with no concerns about pulldown -- you don't even have to think about it.

Vegas does the conversion on the fly when you edit the footage. If you bring the footage into a 24p timeline, it removes pulldown. If you bring it into a 60i timeline, it doesn't.

Vegas has the most brilliant 24p handling of any NLE.

I think the "removes pulldown" part is actually dependent on a switch you can set in preferences. But regardless of whether you actually strip it out or not, Vegas flat out rules at 24p.

i don't know about normal pull down using DVX 100 but for film transferred to tape you have to manually set Vegas 5/6 up to remove the pull down ..

after you set project properties to 23.97 .. drop clip into TL .. then go to media pool . you right click on clip - file format properties - then check remove pull down.. in the box is 0 .. you then look at the clip frame by frame ( for approx 8-10 frames) if you see interlace artifact you then go back and change the 0 to 1 - again look at clip frame by frame if you see interlace actifact change the 1 to 2 ( repeat this till interlace artifacts are gone - the pull down box is 0-4)

NOTE that once you set Vegas up to remove pull down from a clip then that clip will have pull down removed in any/all projects you drop the clip in = so if you drop clip into a 29.97 project vegas will remove pull down and then add pull down ...

For the DVX it's all handled automatically. What you're talking about can be applied to footage like telecine'd film.

One thing that makes us enjoy Vegas so much is that this is all done automatically behind the scenes. The DVX encodes flags in the data stream that Vegas picks up on, so it removes pulldown on the fly (including 2:3 pulldown, it can split and re-integrate frames live on playback or during editing).

Yeah. You don't need to do anything but make sure "Allow Pulldown Removal On Opening DV" is checked in the Preferences.

Other than that, you worry about nothing.

In a 29.97 project, Vegas does not remove pulldown then add pulldown. There's no need.

thanks for all the feedbacks, folks!

seems vegas is really MADE for 24p editing.

On the other hand, Avid Xpress Pro 5.1.4 is really testing my patience.

David,
You are definately talented man.

Thanks for your great tutorial.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Anything on changing frame rates (slo-mo) on a 24P timeline?

Steve
