Does this sound normal?

I was out shooting with my HVX yesterday. I was shooting in 720p24pn, scene files all at default, a shutter speed of 1/60, and cine-like v. It was one of those winter days where the sky is a bright white, and there is snow covering most of the ground. To JUST get a shot that wasn't blowing out I had to flip the 1/8 ND filter on and put my f-stop to 8.0! Does this sound normal? Or am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ya, snow can suck sometimes. You have a couple of options. Actually really only one in my mind.

You could increase the shutter (don't do it unless it is justified by what you are trying to get out of the shot)

Live with the smaller aperture ( this will bring more of the image in focus so you lose depth)

Or, I think this is the best idea, get additional ND filters to attach to the camera when they are needed.

Hope this helps you solve your problems.

1/8th ND isn't enough for snow. Especially if it's a sunny day. JMHO. I'd set it to 1/64.

I thought this was going to be another "clunking sound when I turn my camera over" thread! :)

Increasing your shutter speed also helps. however, over 250 in speed brings you a poorer picture.

EDIT- Woops! Filmbuff28 already answered this question well. Please ignore!
