F55: Does this seem fishy to you? WORRIED ABOUT POSSIBLE FRAUD ---- PLEASE READ

Finn - yes, exactly - you're right- it's not a good way to steal at all - so if thats the case... once you use paypal, the item should be shipped right away (as it is done on ebay and through private sales all the time) - why keep the item till the money cashes out to your private bank if paypal can grab the money from you even if you do that??? In the end, everyone is made whole with paypal... it may take a few days to get it sorted out if someone is being an A hole, but once that payment is made the item SHOULD ship. The buyer trusts that the item will be sent right away (unless otherwise stated) and everyone agrees.

When a seller holds on to the shipment he basically is saying that he deserves greater protection than the buyer. But, the buyer is the first one to show trust by sending money and not getting anything in his hand. The Seller gets the instant gratification! Heck, if you have a paypal ATM card you can be spending your money in no time and the buyer is left waiting for his item.

THIS IS NOW AN ACEDEMIC DISCUSSION BY THE WAY - I JUST GOT THE ITEM :) WHEW, thats a load off my mind!

But just because my situation is resolved doesn't mean the issue is dead. It is with the seller, but the topic is still a valid one.

Dennis!

So, all personal attacks on me aside Dennis, are you saying it's okay to bring up changes to terms only AFTER the item was paid for?

because that is really what all this is about now. if he said this ahead of time I simply would have made a consumer decision whether or not I am willing to be subject to the delay after paying. I would have gone ahead with the purchase having known his policy ahead of time given the deal it was, but would ask for a definite "ship-by" date so I would know when it's been too long - and know when to draw the line and protect myself through paypal - for the very reason your yourself quoted - so that I wouldn't get dragged along until it's suddenly too late to do anything about it.

Dennis and Brian - both of you are missing the point - no matter what references someone has, no matter how much homework you do when someone changes the terms of sale after the buyer pays - (and this was not a quick sale- the seller had nearly a month to tell me about his policy ) - is NOT acceptable and is a red flag. Is it a "call the police" red flag? No, of course not, but it definitely raises suspicion. To say "online buying and selling is not for you if you can't handle the stress" is just insulting. I have been buying and selling for 15 years and NEVER had someone hold my item until after he cashed out to his bank account... but it doesn't even really matter what the issue is at this part of the discussion - it wasn't me that did something wrong - it was the seller. IT IS WRONG TO CHANGE THE TERMS OF THE SALE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE - it is not wrong to get suspicious when something like that happens.

Thanks Finn,

Sorry I misunderstood what you meant that first time -

It's a Vocas Mattebox MB-450, I don't know if they are very popular - but I love those inner eyelids. I just now slapped it on my camera and am SOOO HAPPY :)
