Does the GH2 have a metal body?

I thought I read somewhere that it had a plastic covered metal body. Maybe I was dreaming.

You meant magnesium body? No GH2 isn't.

Ypu mean it *doesn't* have a body that is carved from a solid brick of magnesium alloy by Japanese crafstmen who spend six months drilling, and tapping, and filing it until it acheives perfection, and is good enough to warrant the individual signature of the artist who brought it to life??

That it *isn't* then passed on to a team of ex-Swiss watchmakers who install a jewelled shutter mechanism? - before transferring it to the trim shop, where it's finished with a carefuly selected grade of hand stitched Connelly leather for the grip???

If that's true - why do they charge s much for it???

Are you talking to me? :) How would I know the answer!!!

I'm selling 7 out of 9 lenses to raise cash. They want me to show more money? Here!!! Take my money!!! Give me GH2 asap!!!

That website is such a crock. If he didn't spout so many half truths and get defensive about his opinions(among other things), Reid wouldn't be banned from a legit site like this. So take postings on that site with a grain of salt.

Totally spot on...I didnt know about his past issue with DVXUSER and used to visit his site regularly...until one day on his overexcited GH2 review I posted a query about how some people are having banding/rolling shutter and codec issues and if he show examples ...he basically got abusive called me GH2 hater...great way to treat your readers...Top guy.

Reading back a lot of his articles most are a load of speculative guff. "GH2 to be metal body...Shutter less...make you tea etc etc"

Gh2s a great cam (before any of you jump on me lol)...but back on topic...holding one its a bit more plasticky than I hoped it would be...but then if it was metal it'll probably cost more.
Like the grip though ;-)

I don't need mine hewn from a solid block of marble, but I'd pay ~$1800 for a version with about the build quality of a D700. Friggin follow focus torque jerks the thing around so much it screws up my framing sometimes!

I work with metals and plastics. Sometimes plastics are stronger. I use magnesium for engraving plates. The reason is magnesium is one of the softest metals around. Does not say allot for its structural capabilities. The reason it is used as cases is because it is very light. It is also extremely flammable.

The textured grip definitely makes the gh2 a better overall feel than the gh1, but definitely not the same as a d7000 or 7D. As things progress I'd imagine they'll come out with a refined body with future models. Since panasonic views the GH series as a niche camera, maybe they'll implement more requests as time goes on.

Wow! - am I the only person who really likes the 'soft' GH1 finish? Personally, I think it's much classier, and makes the GH2 look and feel rather 'plastic fantastic'

Any bets on how long it will take that plastic grip on the GH2 to come unstuck?

Haha well the speckled finish looks lame, but the little insert feels softer than the old gh1 in my mind.

It'll come lose the day the 1 year warranty runs out haha.
