Does the GH13 firmware hack affect the sensor?

maybe someone has already wondered and asked about it, but
we can consider GH1 is a photo priority kamera, or not whatever;

Is it Healty to use its sensor by 60-70 Mbps Videos ?!
Does anyone wonders about it? or its a very little bad effect on the sensor that can appear negatively 4-5 years later..

i aspecially wanted to ask this here, because hack fw is doing that, and the masters here.. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

Codec bitrate has nothing to do with the sensor.

ups..
it looks logic, thanks,

then the question is more simple now,
videos, aspecially long ones, may damage sensor for worse wuality photos in the future?

Say what? In 4-5 years we'll be shooting with the GH Holographic! The GH1 will be a relic!

Photos in the GH1 are for emergencies only. Like what happened to me this weekend when my D90 fell and the lens broke. The GH1 came to the rescue for stills. Otherwise video is the main duty of the GH1.

It's not like the hack added video functionality, it was always there! Panasonic designed the camera to shoot video. On top of that, it is a liveview camera, which means the sensor is always active when the camera is being used.

maybe it's best to answer bluntly?

No, the firmware changes do not affect the sensor in any way. It only affects how the data is handled once it is sampled from the sensor.

4-5 years is much i know ( even for GH1 :P
this is why i said "such little negative effect"

btw,
panasonic is really a video camera and emergency photo machine??
most of the websites putting it to their sale or review lists under the title of " Photo machines"

Got it, :dankk2:
1 more;
when only liveview, is it as "using-forcing sensor" as when we are taking video?? (sure taking videos includes liveview also)

then can we say that for ccd sensor simple compact machines also cant have any extra damage on sensor because of taking long videos also?

well you can be all cautious and not shoot anything or be quite selective, even though panasonic did design the camera for video purposes, or you could go crazy and shoot all the beautiful moments in your life for keepsake. If it dies it dies, though I'm sure not prematurely, move on to the next best thing.

There may be some loss in translation but if you are concerned with the higher bitrate killing the sensor, keep in mind that the sensor is still doing the same thing that it was doing before the patch. What is getting pushed now is processor and encoding if i'm not mistaken.

GH1 not good for photos!

What do you shoot with the d90 that cant be had with the GH1? out of interest.

I myself have taken some pretty cracking pics with mine =) though my mate with his D90 seems to get more consistent shots when he points and shoots. It takes me quite abit longer to get it right but when i do its a keeper. mind you he shoots with kit lens autofocus and i older manual lenses.

The GH1 is a fine still camera (certainly on par in many respects with APS-sized DSLRs), and with the GH13 hack it's also a superb video camera. Yes, it is possible to get both at the same time apparently. I can't wait to see what we can do with the next-gen GHx bodies.
