Does the GH1 ignores shutter speed setting in 1080i/24 AVCHD.

Latest firmware, extreme jello shot issues. Unless I lock the camera down it seems it's shutter speed in FHD is ignored (thereby the immaginary shutter angle of 180 or other), it's just making the picture look darker, but scan speed is still 1/24 - Sorry if it's been discussed to death, but any lens longer than 55mm makes me think I need a super stable tripod, not touch the body at all, and I do mean at all and avoid panning or tilting altogether. Is the solve to simply shoot in 720 MJPEG mode at 60PsF? Very disappointed with lack of ability to move the camera period in 1080 AVCHD (Stock Firmware 1.32 - Mar 10 - MEGA O.I.S. Disabled (not a chipped lens), Manual Prime Lenses only) even a 28mm lens causes headaches for minimal jitter.

Seems like shutter speed directive is ignored when scanning picture per frame, as in it does not do it faster from top to bottom other than 1/24th regardless of shutter speed at 1/60 etc...

Any thoughts?

I could not even fathom of getting such terrible results out of a Cannon HV20 as I did with this one, how to compensate aside from the obvious ( as the obvious has been tried ).

Shutter speed has never affected jello, on any CMOS camera, ever.

Frame rate affects jello. Shutter speed affects blur, only. You get the exact same amount of jello at 1/1000, that you get at 1/24 -- only difference is that the 1/1000 is crisper. This is the same behavior on a Red, an EX1/EX3, an HPX370/300, doesn't matter. It's the way CMOS cameras work.

In a way SLR still cameras (film) with a curtain shutter (focal plane) instead of a leaf shutter have the same problem - leaning buildings if the camera is moving, etc....

A curtain shutter will move across a frame at a constant rate, typically in 1/125th of a second or so. The faster speed is achieved by narrowing the width of the slit as the curtain moves across the frame. For example, if the curtain moves across in 1/125th and you set the shutter at 1/1000th the open slit will be 1/8th of the frame's width and the time any part of the frame is exposed will be 1/1000th of a second, although it will still take 1/125th of a second to get the entire frame exposed.

Conceptually this is similar to the rolling shutter effect we are seeing.

DJ, shoot in AVCHD sh mode, yes it will be 50/60fps but jello is almost non existent especially with the higher bitrate hack enabled. Upres to 1080 and export as 24/25 fps. It's not perfect but at least you can shoot with longer lenses and handheld and the result is better than 1080 pre hacked.

Got it. - But I don't recall it being this exacerbated of a problem with RED or HPX-300 though Panny released a video about "dealing with it" showing two women racing down in go-carts - I'm guessing its the cameras relative weight and its sensor or some other internals. It's like shooting with high-res iPhone.

Shooting at 60PsF then.
