Does the focus ring have hard stops?

Does the HVX200 focus ring have hard stops? Please say yes...
I hope it does, unlike the DVX100/A with its rotating focus ring/servo. I just purchased a Century focus ring for my DVX, and of course that won't fit the new baby because the DVX focus ring is smaller, isn't it?

count the number of licks it takes to get to the middle of a tootie roll pop.
that's about how long it will take to know for certain. camera doesn't yet
exist in the hands of an american and it won't for a while. stay posted.
we'll probably know for sure in a couple of months.

It's quite certain by the looks of the camera, that it will not have hard stops for focus. But, ofcourse I don't know this for a fact.

I hope this camera has hard-stops too. Jan, can you tell us if the HVX-200 has hard-stops or not?

I've heard it said that the autofocus mechanism prevents the focus ring from behaving in any way other than it does, and requires the free-spin type of design.

That is not the case with removable lenses (which are both manual & auto), so I don't see how it would make sense with a fixed lens design.

It seems it would not be that difficult.
Then again, what do I know?
(don't answer that)

I can understand the concern for hard stops. But you can hook up a remote to control the zoom and the focus. So you wouldn't need to have a follow focus system on the camera. That to me would be much more efficent not to mention cheaper. The less hands on the camera the better.

The only widely available removable autofocus lens is the Canon XL lenses and those don't have hard stops either. Standard removable broadcast style lenses do have hard stops in zoom and focus but they do not have autofocus. They do have autoiris, however.

Take a look at this Response to Barry Green half way down. This industry used to give real lenses even on consumer gear.

Panasonic should be doing atleast hard stops or better yet what JVC is doing. If Panasonic did. This camera would become even a more bigger beast to beat.

Take a look at a Prosumer camera from sony 15 years ago. Where did it go wrong and why?

Thanks for the clarification. Nearly every thing on my wish list. I'm still hoping they can somehow incorporate hard stops but that's okay.

If you need hard stops, you can always get the ring from Century Precision Optics; presumably they'll be making an HVX-compatible version.

That's true. I purchased the Century ring for my AG-DVX100A. I'm looking forward to seeing what other products arise from this camera's release, including anything from Century Optics.
