Does the DVX 100a come with a cable to hook the cam up to a computer, and some capture software? or do you have to buy the software sepreatly?

Also does the 100a come with the cable so you can watch what you did on cam on the TV?

No, it doesn't come with a firewire cable, RCA cable, s-video cable, or capture software. (Your computer should come with some kind of capture software)

To capture to the computer, you'll have to get a FireWire/i.Link cable (1394 IEEE). They run for around 25-30 dollars, when you buy a good one.

No it is probably not the cable you need unless your Firewire card has a 4 pin connection on it. You probably need the 6 to 4 pin configuration which is pretty much standard.

I have a fair amout of s-video cables.. from DVD players, old video cameras, ect. would they work? P.S now getting 100b

No, the s-video will only capture the video it does not capture audio.

Then could someone link me to all the cables needed for the 100b to watch your videos on the T.V., and to hook up to the PC

To hook it up to the computer you just need a 4 pin connector for the camera side and more than likely a 6 pin for the computer side(Some computers do have a 4 pin though. Look and compare the two. If its bigger on the computer side than compared to the camera then it is a 6 pin.)

To hook the camera up to a tv and get audio and video you can do it two ways. You can use the RCA cables(Yellow, Red, and White) or you can use the S-Video for the video and the red and white for the audio. Using S-Video gives you a better picture, but for just running through dailies or checking your picture using the Yellow RCA jack for video will work just fine.

Most mini dv cameras have a 4 pin FireWire connector. Most computers have a 6 pin input but some newer computers and laptops have a 4 pin connector. They are very easy to tell apart, but here's a picture to make sure:

The left one is a 6 pin, the right one a 4 pin

You probably need a 4 pin to 6 pin unless you have one of those new weirdo computers with a "media port" or something on the front. If your computer doesn't have any firewire inputs you can buy a random firewire PCI card for under $100 at any store that sells computer parts.

For viewing on TV the easiest sollution is to use the standard RCI cables.
