GH5 Does the DMW-XLR1 adapter work with the G9?

I'm getting conflicting results as some sites say it doesn't and others say it does.

I also wonder if a firmware update has made it compatible with the G9?

Can anyone confirm or deny that the DMW-XLR1 works with the G9?

Thanks!

According to info on Panasonic's site, it appears the answer is no.

Looks like only the full-frame S series and the GH5/S.

G9's latest couple of FWs do not mention any compatibility.

If you want to upgrade your G9, then instead of the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 get yourself a Sound Devices MixPre3, is only a few hundred dollars more and is more powerful / more features and you can bring it with you to your next camera, whatever that is!

However, that list isn’t complete: the S5 also supports the DMW-XLR1. The S5’s user manual explains how to set it up.

The user manual for the G9 makes no mention of this accessory, though. Pretty sure it’s not supported.

I see you pumping up the mixpre3 a lot, ironfilm. Out of curiosity, how do you think the zoom f6 compares?

I'm in general somewhat negative about the MixPre series (but less so as time went by with the firmware updates, and the Gen2 came out, plus the huuuuge price drop on the MixPre10), but then again I'm speaking from the perspective of a production sound mixer. If I'm giving a recommendation for what a videographer/cameraman should get, then the MixPre3 seems perfectly suited (especially thanks to its super compact size). Now the F6 I've never used, but I own a F8n/F4/MixPre3 (plus 552/833/DR680/Maxx), I think purely due to that slim form factor (and HDMI trigger) the MixPre3 makes more sense than a F6 for the videographer/cameraman. Perhaps for an aspiring sound mixer the F6 wins by a nose over a MixPre3 or MixPre6, but it isn't a slam dunk winning case for the F6 like it is for the F8n.
