Does the Brevis work for both DVX and HVX?

I'm buying the Brevis, does the $1,072 HD one work on BOTH the DVX and HVX? So I just need to know.

Get CF1 if you will be using wide lenses up to a 100mm or so. Anything longer than 100mm will vignette. Alternatively, you can get CF1L to eliminate vignetting on the longer lenses but anything wider than 35mm will vignette.

In terms of vignetting, I use a 135mm f2.5 with my CF1 and I find it almost not noticeable. However when using my 200mm f4.0 the vignetting is too much. Similarly you can probably get away with slight vignetting on the 35mm when using the CF1L but you will get a lot of vignetting on a 20mm.

With the proper diffuser for a given application the Brevis has even edge to edge brightness unlike the M2 which vignettes no matter what you do.

I would highly recommend the 22mm spacer ring for both the DVX and HVX because it gives you better edge to edge focus on the diffuser.

Marco, I have been using CF1,2 and 3. I find my Nikon 85mm and 105mm need to be mostly wide open or vignette occurs. I have CF1L and others on order, so I have not tested these yet, though I should get some improvement with my aforementioned longer lenses. Surprisingly, I have a Sigma 135-400mm D lens, which allows me to stop down to f16 without any vignette, using CF1. I am not impressed with the sharpness of this lens.

I did not realise that CF1L may cause vignette on the wider lenses. More testing in due course, on 18 - 35mm primes.

Christopher, how do you feel about CF2 in terms of light loss and diffusion? What about in terms of grain and vignetting?

I usually shoot wide open on my lenses past so it's easier for me to avoid vignetting.

Marco, I personally like CF3, the DOF and bokeh is more pronounced, however, there is a need to have really fast and fully open lenses.

Once CF2 or CF2L are released as a one piece diffuser, I am earmarking it as the most permenantly installed diffuser, as most of my prime lenses are about f2 range, which probably suits more use with CF1 and CF2.

I can not make a specific comment about light loss from actual tests, as I have always shot different footage, never a constant for comparison, so I would be guessing. Quote from Dennis: "CF3/CF3L has approx. twice the diffusion level of CF1/CF1L, which changes the quality of bokeh." CF2 appears somewhere in between. I have not observed any additional vignetting issues between CF1,2 and 3.
