Does the auto focus and image stabilization have any real value on the HVX?

I have two DVX100a's with the 16X9 lens on them, so I was never able to use either of these features on that camera. I'm wondering if there are any situations where one could use these functions during a shoot with the HVX200? I'm thinking of getting a Fig-Rig and was wondering if they would be useful with that, esp. the image stabilization when on the move.

Autofocus is autofocus; I mean, it's useful for things that autofocus is useful for, and it's useless in most shooting circumstances. As far as autofocus goes, it works fine. It can be handy for helping you grab a "confidence" focus if you can't focus any other way, but on the HVX I usually never find that type of circumstance.

The image stabilizer is a much better feature though; any time you have the camera handheld the stabilizer should be on. I believe the stabilizer is more effective on the HVX than it ever was on the DVX, especially when you factor in that the HVX's lens is more telephoto than the DVX was.

Thanks for the reply Barry. I don't see myself using auto focus much if at all for "Holy War", but the image stabilizer is something that I hope will be handy. Because of cost considerations I plan on getting a Fig-Rig for any mobile shots and wondered if the image stabilizer would give me much utility in that use.

It would probably, yes; the figrig is a stabilizing device but it's not quite like a gimbal system, so I would expect that leaving the OIS on would probably be the right move; someone with a figrig could hopefully perform a little on/off test and let us know if it makes a good difference.

Thanks Barry. I hope someone can do this test, but if not I will do it when I finally get my cameras and the figrig. Perhaps I'll be finding out sooner than I thought on how the HVX and figrig work together.
