Does the AG 100 have built in OIS?

On page 10 of the manual Vol 2 it describes how to use the cameras OIS.

"Use the Optical Image Stabilizer to reduce the effects of camera shake when shooting by hand."

"For lenses that have an OIS button, only the lens button is active, and the camera button is deactivated."

Yippee, that's a bonus!

Cheers,

It does not have built-in OIS. OIS is a function of the lens.

The AF100 has a button that can enable OIS on lenses that have OIS, but don't have the physical switch on them to enable it. The GH2's kit lens is an example. Most of the m43 lenses with OIS have a physical switch on them, but some (at least that GH2 kit lens) don't have the switch. For those lenses, the AF100 has a button that can enable the lens's OIS.

But if the lens doesn't have OIS, then the button does nothing. There is no in-body image stabilization in the AF100.

Thanks Barry, my Bad.

You've done a better job of explaining it than whats written in the manual!

I thought have pulled a rabbit out of the hat to surprise us all!

I thought the same as you when I first saw it, and I tried every which way but couldn't get that button to do <anything> at all. Finally I pinned down the engineers in Osaka and wrestled them to the floor and wouldn't let them up until they clearly explained what it was for. And that's the answer that I got. So, yeah, it's a replacement for the on-lens switch, that's all. Apparently the GH2 can enable the lens OIS remotely as well, so this button is to give the camera that same level of functionality but only with those certain lenses.

Ummm, the 14-140 kit lens does have an OIS switch. Do you mean the 14-42?

Yes, the one that's on the GH2. I guess the 14-140 could also be considered a kit lens for the GH2, so I guess that's confusing, but ... I specifically meant the one that they introduced with the GH2, which I believe is the new 14-42.
