Does Panasonic's bright yellow case fit an HVX?

Hello TheThe,

Unfortunately, it's true. The Thermodyne case for the HVX is a deep blue. Even though it's not yellow, it's still a great case! We just sold one to a guy who went to Israel with it and loves it. The Thermodyne case that Panasonic has is the SHAN-HVX200.

Thanks,

Uhmm... another case I didn't know about. Deciding between this one, the above one and the Pelican one is getting more difficult. Aesthetically I think the Panasonic HT100G is the best looking one... but also the least practical one.

The Pelican 1600 seems to be the most rugged one... but dealing with the foam-cutting and plucking is a major pain. (and paying tons extra for Abel's ready-made version just stings my cheapscate's sensibility).

And now this blue one... everything seems cool about it... except the blue. Why can't it come in black?

I had the thermodyne case for my 100b. when I sold it the camera, I kept the case. It requires some modification (cutting foam) to fit the HVX, but it does work with some finess.

Yeah, I modified the yellow case for HVX also. Had to cut some foam and add some foam. Camera fits in upright position. Yellow case is smaller than the official new blue case. Blue case is probably more protective, but I think the yellow case will work OK unless run over by truck.

i´ve bought a portabrace 2600F from bhphoto and its really great .. its really cheap and equal to a pelicase ... and you get a smaller one for free! but its also blue :)

where to buy foam?

where to buy foam?

Anybody know where one can purchase just sheets of this pick and pluck foam?

I spent an hour looking yesterday and could'nt come up with much.

Thanks

When I got my Pelican, (great case), they had replacement foam blocks. Try their website.

Does anyone know if the Peican 1600 will fit in the overhead bin of the plane? The panny states that theirs(AG-YUC100) does.

TheThe,

Here is another option for you. The guys at Zacuto are living and breathing custom cases. There may be one that you find interesting.

Thanks Andrew

I really apreciate your feedback. I think I will end up going with the custom foam insert from the zacuto guys.

I had no idea one could buy this sort of thing. So, $105.95 for the empty pelican case + $155 for the HVX custom insert foam... equals $260.95 for a complete solution. That's still better than Abel Cine's $275.00 price for the same thing. Now if only the Storm cases came in custom HVX configurations.

EDIT:

BREAKING NEWS:
(For me at least)

I just realized that the Storm Case IM-2700 is, acording to zacutos web site, the "same as pelican 1600", therefore also being able to acomodate the custom foam insert. HOWEVER, upon investigating at the storm case website, the IM-2700 is listed as having the internal dimentions of 22.0 x 17.0 x 8.0 in., while B&H's website lists the 1600's internal dimentions as 21 3/4 x 16 13/16 x 7 7/8. Well, obviously they are close BUT NOT EQUAL. So does that mean the custom foam insert is going to be bouncing around inside the Storm Case?
