Does Panasonic think, that WOMEN don't know about cameras? - Why this sexist ad?

That's what you got from that? I'm sorry, I probably just don't get why you feel it is sexist. I suppose if it was a guy at the top (with the exact same pose) and the same picture at the bottom (on the left) then someone would say "Does Panasonic imply gay men know nothing about camera's?" I suppose looking at all four pictures it could be said that Panasonic thinks funky girls don't know about camera, neither does mothers. Metrosexual men however do know about camera's as well as men who hike in cold weather. That leaves all the rest of the demographics in the world that don't know about camera's at all since a picture depicting them in some form or anther was not included. Hey whilst we are at it, Panasonic is racist cause they only post pictures of Caucasians.

There is something I have learned a couple of years ago: Those who anger you, control you.

I do not mean to offend anyone however posting my opinion here means I will offend someone.

People see sexism in everything today. If this was a website for a product or thing that's typically known by women more then men like baby stuff and a similar thing was portrayed, any guy making an issue out of it would be shot down immediately.

I've barely met a woman who knows what to do with a piece of tech when she gets it. Of course they're out there but is that the point? There's always exceptions to the rule...doesn't mean people have to get so bent out of shape so easily when something doesn't always cater to their strengths.

I would be curious to know how many women surf Dvxuser daily or get into discussion about the latest RED firmware of GH2 hacks? Come on...lol.

I already know I can't win this argument because not agreeing with the OP means certain doom nowadays, but whatever. :) (FYI, all the smileys on the site seem to be male...I smell sexism)

Mortifying! - we should organise a huge protest outside Panasonic HQ - all the women can burn their bra's and all the men (who really know how to use a camera) can film it!

haven't we got anything better to do?

Last night I watched a documentary on the problem of child rape in Africa, where 30% of school age boys think rape isn't a violent crime and girls actually enjoy it - if you want to get upset about something - get upset about that!

Yeah... they should change those to a picture of a monkey....or sloth.... but make sure it's a MALE monkey and sloth!

People are WAY too nervy these days, lighten up a bit.

LOL totally hilarious....

There's this phrase I read about- "the pussyfacation of men".... Men have become way to sensitive to these things- more than women sometimes. I just showed two girls here this page, and they laughed... Thought it was funny.

Political correctness should incinerated by a flame thrower, preferably the job be done by a man since I never met a girl who knew how to use a flame thrower- at least a girl I would sleep with that is......... :-D

Just did a quick test; showed it to my girlfriend without saying anything. Asked her what she thought. First thing she said "why is it that women don't know how to use a camera in this ad?"
So my conclusion is that the women get it immediately and that most men are completely blind to it. Wanna guess who probably created the ad, a man or a woman?

It isn't sexist because it isn't intentional. That is, pretty sure they didn't mean it to be interpreted the way you are interpreting it.

I see a student and a mother on the left, and an amateur artist and professional on the right. I didn't see it as man/woman.

Come on, guys. It's totally sexist. Is it worth organizing marches over? No...but they used those pictures to make a point. If it was the mother and baby on one side, and the dude with the knit cap and camera tripod on his shoulder, it wouldn't be so questionable. But there is nothing about the other woman that says she's anything other than a woman. Same with the other guy. Their only distinguishing feature is their sex. I don't think there's some conspiracy going on. Someone just didn't consider the optics of what they were doing.

Actually, looking at the ad more thoroughly, I even think it's possible someone screwed up the placement of the pictures. It would make far more sense to have the girl making the viewfinder with her fingers as someone who does know about cameras, rather then the dude just sitting on the train tracks. Unconscious bias at play, maybe....Anyway even if the intent wasn't sexist, the result is.

My hat must not be on right.

I saw this as subjects of the photographer using the camera (noting the kind of images that can be achieved regardless of skill) and not the images depicting a camera user. But that's just me...

That's such a cliched and obviously sexist advertising device that it almost feels like a gag or a picture in a Cracked article. I'm betting it's a mistake.

It's worse than sexist. It goes way beyond that. It also says people who form squares with their fingers or hold babies also, don't know about cameras while people who sit on rails and wear knit caps do! That's outrageous!

..... wait, that's not right. The people on the left are transexuals. THAT'S EVEN MORE OUTRAGEOUS! Transexuals don't know about cameras?!???!

What's odd about the pictures is that the woman holding her fingers in a square is not an image that represents someone who doesn't know about cameras. A cliche shot, but certainly not one that would be associated with a person taking snapshots.
