Does nobody really use DVXuser anymore?

There's just no one here to do that with, lol.

But that's what I def do on reddit with my other interests or watch videos on YT to learn stuff quickly.

One reason it's just not the same anymore on a forum like this is because we aren't as clueless with everything as we were 20 years ago. It was so fun figuring stuff out and living through minor improvements in archaic technology, and watching people's videos when the bar was very low, things like that.
Reddit is pretty good, but sometimes I get sort of an elitist/I'm so smart vibe from some of the forums that I don't get here

I think like 10-years-ago the world figured out overwhelmingly unanimously that reddit has a collection of some of the worst of humanity, lol.

You have to be very tough mentally to stick around long-term...but you get some really good conversations, insights, perspectives from people constantly challenging and correcting each other.

Forums are the only discussions I can stomach any more. I watch a few YTers like Josh Sattin and Gerald Undone but most of it is thinly veiled sales pitches. "Sirui sent me these lenses and I get to keep them, but that won't affect my review" - mmm OK

Just a note -

If everyone who's reminiscing about the way it used to be put the energy of this thread into the other threads, things could be more lively again.

It's a fair enough question - for everyone here talking about the good old days, what would bring you back?

Could you please bring back the posts number below the username, if possible? lol

That's something I miss. I guess the new format now calls them 'messages' which is just not right because private messages are also called that.

It's a little thing, but I miss that about the old forum (and the orange squares which are def gone forever).

I'm mostly here to soak up @morgan_moore's colorful spelling and phrasing. Decoding it is a solid brainteaser, like doing a crossword puzzle. Keeps me sharp.
I am constantly serious but folk miss that.

What is DVX.. I guess we might have in common that we are people trying to make a living, probably corporate - a little ENG and a little narrative.

That mean 'we' have the same problems..
-feeding a picture to a client
-decent audio
-holding shots longer that 8 seconds

The home move folk or the tik tok folk have other worries.

THat hopefully makes us speak from some sort of baseline.

Of course there are a few that a $50k zoom will be a possibility and those who have to mungle (get) along with a 24-105

But most of us are trying to pay for a house?

There is definitely that vibe but I think a lot of it comes from folks asking questions that are easily answered by taking 30-seconds to check the manual or do a google search. Folks get tired of answering the same basic question over and over again. I could be wrong, but that's been my experience when going through some of the video-related subs.

As for this site, I've kinda moved on from the "filmmaker" I thought I was going to be and have become more comfortable in a corporate video role. I still get to make films every now-and-then, but I no longer try to do everything myself and instead I take on a singular role. I think that has lead me to not scouring each section of this site as much. The topics that I was once interested when I was younger no longer interest me or relate to the work I do.

I remember the big days of DVXUser. I haven't ever been a heavy submitter but I've always tried to comment when I have some useful information to share. There was also the feeling that folks on this site know each other and work with each other. And it also felt like we had insider knowledge here as we had guys like Barry being very active on here and answering any questions we had about the latest Panny camera.

Personally, I think the biggest hit to this site was Panasonic doing away with their cinema offerings. Folks moved to other brands (I did) and then found other forums that were dedicated to that brand.

A similar complaint popped up on Youtube recently. These camera companies operate without a rhyme or reason. Can't depend of them. When they decide to discountinue a camera they just never release a new version.

If I had to guess they decided they could sell more units with mirrorless cameras due to the lower price, greater appeal, and dual usage photo/video. Where as cinema cameras have smaller pool of people and there's more competition, Sony FX, Canon C, Black Magic and Red.

They also hurt themselves stubbornly clinging to contrast AF and while that had nothing to do with cinema it showed how poor their judgement is. They use unpopular L mount. In some ways I'm surprise Panasonic managed to stay afloat.

Interesting thread. Been a long time since I've logged in here. I think the DVX is what brought me here but the community is why I stayed...until I started meeting folks in real life that shared the same interests. I recently got into classic cars and jumped on a forum which made me think of this place. I've actually now met a couple more DVXusers recently in real life, which is pretty great as well.

Lot of people have left the game too!

While I love social DVXers this is the real reason Im here.. getting opinions from folk who do it!
