Does it matter if my first spec screenplay is high budget????

Is that in Zimbabwe dollars?

Nigerian dollars (lol). I have a check for $300M. If you will kindly cash it and send me $250M I will give you the other $50M for your efforts. Just have the money wired to my bank account asap. 'It will a pleasure be to the business do with you.'

You know, it would be hilarious if Chip wasn't joking. He does know some very rich people. I'm PM'ing, just in case.

No, I'm not kidding. I'm going to give it to all the studio execs and say it's budget is just under $200M.

...My first feature spec screenplay...

To begin with we were all under the impression this was his first script and he was going the route of high budget in which our imaginations went to millions of dollars in which we thought "stupid, stupid stupid."

The question should have been asked as so:

"I want to sell a spec script, I've written a few screenplays and now I feel ready to hit the market, I would like to write a "high budget" spec but should I give into consideration the economy, what's selling right now or just go for it?"

My advice to him would be to tailor make a script for an actor or a type of actor: romance girl, action guy, thriller which is very marketable right now and WAIT on the high budget.

Now why would I ask him to wait.

Because I would tell him what Simon Cowell tells contestants - some have the "IT FACTOR" and you if you have to ask what type of spec you should or should not be writing, you ain't got

IT!

Sorry to be harsh, so for my advice, smaller budget, doable film, great storyline and target an actor who needs to make a movie.

This is clearly a fraudulent post... the English is far too good, and almost makes sense...

Good day, good folks.

I've been lurking on this board for years and you have inspired me to finally make my first (and maybe last) post.

I'm in the middle of trying to finish the first draft of a short (which explains why I'm cruising forums) so I'm very receptive to this sort of discussion right now.

I would like to thank you all for your contributions to one of the most exasperating yet entertaining threads anywhere, ever. Made my day!
