Does anyone own a AF-s Nikkor 17-35mm?

Hi

I just brought a Nikkor full frame 17-35mm for use with my still's nikon d2x and I will be also using it on a video camera. Possibly the sony F3 or sony fs100.

I have just realised that I am getting a bit of focus breath on this lens, something that I had not been expecting. Obviously for stills this is fine but shooting video it could cause a problem.

Just wondering if anyone else has this lens and has the same problem.

What do you mean by focus breath? That that lens did not perform well on video--the out of focus areas looked awful at f2.8. It is also way overkill for anything but a full frame camera like the Nikon D3S.

My old copy of the 17-35 had focus "breathing". It's not a cine lens, it's not parfocal (doesn't hold focus while zooming), and it 'breathes' when focused (composition changes due to floating optical elements).

Think of the 17-35 as a variable focal length prime and don't zoom while filming, and you will never have an issue on screen with your footage.

hey

cheers. yeah, I guess its just something I will have to deal with. it's a great lens. gonna have to wait till I get a fs100 to test it with video tho
