Well ... YEs
I want a HVX but not gonna happen..... size os a killer matter.. it is so small jsut what i need, and i was gonna wait to see what sony.panny.cannon brought out but nothing seems to be under the $5000 AUD dollaer make ($3500 US)

The A1U from what I've seen is just the HC1 with many more manual controls... and the HC1 was a terrific camera! :)

If you can afford the A1U, it'll be a terrific camera for almost every application based on everything I've seen and heard about it.

How does it compare to the HC3?

It is "obviously" better than the HC3. I have mentioned that earlier as well.

A1=HC1+extra features

HC1 > HC3

therefore

A1 > HC3

A1 is better than the HC3. Simple.
