GH2 Does a BMC EF mount make sense for a GH2 user?

Hi,

I need the BMC MFT mount cam pretty bad, but it's in stock nowhere until next year.
I've got an opportunity to buy an EF mount BMC. But is that just stupid?

My lenses are Canon FD 1.4 50mm, Takurmar 1.4 50mm, SLR Magic 12mm, Zeiss 2.8 Distagon Contax mount.
Would it mean having to sell all those?

Should I just wait for the MFT mount?

I'd wait for the MFT mount. Why not get a GH3 instead :nads:

I like the look of the BMC, but there’s a hint already in 2013 they’ll release an active MFT mount version so I’m holding on for that, even though I have some really good MFT manual glass.

In your list of lenses I would imagine you’d be able to get adapters for all except for the SLR Magic if you did buy the EF mount version.

I just switched my pre-order to the MFT version (even though it's a dumb mount..."dumb" as in no-electronics, FYI). I think in your case the MFT version makes sense. If you want the BMCC, I don't know if I would wait for an electronic version. There's no guarantee it will actually exist. Blackmagic merely reverse engineered the EF mount in order to allow aperture changes. For MFT use with native lenses, they'd pretty much have to reverse engineer the whole shebang in order to make the lenses even useable, given how focus is part of the electronics.

I'm not bothered about the electronic version of the MFT. That wouldn't even be a factor in my purchase.
It's more about should I hold out for the MFT mount, or get the EF mount now while I can...

Gary was directing that comment at me I think.

Much as I love my Voigtlander, SLR Magic and vintage manual glass, personally I'd want the option of using some Lumix and Olympus lenses so I'm unlikely to invest in a dumb mount MFT BMC. The only reason I would is if I saw the BMC in a sale at a discount (simply because there's nothing like a sale to make me impulse buy).

Yeah, I would be interested in the 12-34mm Lumix, but that would only work on GH2/3, so instead I might just get the Voigt 17mm.

The only thing that made me hesitate (for a millisecond or two) on switching my preorder to the mft was how much I love the Lumix 12-35, but I have about a dozen lenses adapted to mft and while I sold the Tok 11-16 when I bought the Lumix 12-35 I don't really mind buying another. A lot of people will argue that the best reason to go mft is the ability to easily (relatively) adapt to PL.

Take EF mount BMC now.. Sell the SLR Magic 12mm, and buy Tokina 11 - 16 mm instead.. Go, shoot some movies, and earn some money with it.. when MFT version will be awaliable, sell EFmountBMC for 30% less and go for that one if you like.. or have them both..and rent them out to your friends and other filmmakers..
