Documentary shot with DVX 100 gets distribution.

I shot “Can’t Tell the Name Right Now” with my trusty DVX in December. It took me three months to edit.

I found out this morning that it will be distributed nation wide at many stores. I am afraid to say how many they (the marketing company} think will sell.

I know that if it is only a quarter of what I was told I will be very happy. I will also be starting my next project with a budget hooray.

I will be able to tell more about it after it hits the shelves.

Executive Producer says not to give out any info that will identify the piece right now but later I can write a book about it if I want to.

Not a bad idea.

Congrats
How do you get to the point where someone will pick up your movie and distribute it for you once its all done?

Are you saying you can't tell us the name, or is
"Can't Tell the Name Right Now" the actual name.

Why didn´t you just post when you´re actually allowed to give real info...?
Good luck anyway...

well i dont know about you..but if i just go distribution on a doc, i would at least share something about it on here.:)

Congratulations. You have every reason to be excited.

When you say "nation wide"...which nation are you talking about?:)

Just kidding! Go out and celebrate!

Hey, guys the reason I posted before I could tell the name of the project or any of the details is simple

I was busting at the seams to tell somebody. This is my first doc and it is going to be sold in stores that I can walk in and buy a copy right off the shelf.

I know that the big guys will say so what, but it is a big deal to me. And yes I am talking about the United States.

As to how I got distribution that is an interesting question that deserves a straight answer.

The problem is I am not able to tell right now. Let me say that this is not the usual approach. (that I know of this is my first).

My doc is not being distributed by people that specialize in movies. It is being sold by a marketing firm that normally markets everything from energy drinks and jerky to health products.

This is the first time they have tried a DVD. If it keeps going the way it has started it will not be their last. I guess it is mainly that this company already has distribution in such a wide variety of products that it is really no stretch to add a DVD.

I will be happy to answer any questions you may have that I can but I have not been cleared to say the name or where it was shot. Or any specifics about distribution. Yet.

I would like to thank everyone here because it is here where I learned everything I know about the DVX. I love this camera and am sad to think that it is getting old. I will probably get a HVX.

Congrats! Did you shoot 24p? 4:3 or widescreen aspect ratio? (Not that it really matters...just curious about your creative choices.)

Anything you can share about the process would be appreciated. Best of luck with it!

No the docs are not the same. Mine is a tour of the destruction.

No it was not shot n 24p we were in a literal run and gun.

I went manul and used the focus button and white balance a lot. It is not the way I would have shot it had I had more time.

I really like the 24p look. The dvx 100 will not assist focus in 24p and there was little time on each location.

We shot six hours of video and toured all the main devastated areas. The director would hardly let me get out of the car before he would expect me to be rolling tape.

I had a pretty nice setup with two mics and a shoulder rig. I could not have used a tripod the shoulder rig was the only way to go. It was very fast paced.

Over all I was very happy with the DVX 100. I would like to get a 100b but I am afraid that I would regret not buying a HVX or Z1 so I think I will continue to use the 100 until a client insist on HD.

i wonder what percentage of the proceeds will go to katrina relief.

Considering how much the .gov wasted so far on people who weren't even in the area...if it were MY film, none.

Back on topic...good job!

If you look at the website you will see they make no claim that they are giving any money to the victims. I do know for a fact that Dr. Kershenstine is giving a portion to cancer research at the Yamanie Institute. But he doesn’t even have to do that.

I didn’t do the website what do you guys think of it? www.katrinamovietour.com

i'm sorry, but the website and preview frustrate me. how would you like to see "exclusive footage" of the remnants of your home and livelihood on a $19.95 DVD at the drug store? there are more noble ways to make a buck. perhaps i'm too quick to judge.

I worked in New Orleans for six months rebuilding peoples homes. I personally helped 9 families get back in their homes.

Dr. Kershenstine is donating money for cancer research.

DHL is using our video to do fund a raiser for the people of New Orleans.

I have talked to hundreds of people living there and you are the first person I have heard say a negative thing about the project.

You start your sentence with I’m sorry I don’t think you are sorry at all. I think you meant to insult me and you have congratulations you have accomplished your mission.

Why don’t you tell us about your humanitarian project.
