So I have started shooting a doc. about the sport of freestyle motorcross and its going pretty well. I got my first couple of interviews on saturday during a demo in Pomona CA. and also go some footage of the show. Shot it all on the stock HVX and used a Firestore to record. God I love the fs100, just hit record and let it run, no hotsawpping of P2 cards involved. I got a hours worth of footage and plan on shooting many hours more. So here is a rough cut of one of the interviews. The right side of the image got cropped by Myspace and it is not color corrected yet.

Let me know what you think.

Well the guy is a hero, but calling this a documentary is a bit far fetched. It is an interview and it lacks light. The colours are flat, but that might be myspace.

This is just some of the footage that I have gotten so far and depending on the footage that I get in the future it may not even make it into the final product.

I just updated the link to the footage and it is now on my new site. So the aspect ratio will now be displayed correctly at 16:9 and it will look less compressed.

I would sugest getting your interview subject away from the sound system, because even though i can understand him, it sounds like i'm in a club. I know you are shooting in very bright locations, and getting a decent exposure can be difficult. Your' footage is missing contrast. It's easy to get the white right, but you need to have a decent black in the picture. A basic of photgraphy is your whites should be white, your blacks should be black. Good subject, though more geared towards other bikers. Your' framing seems good so work on getting a richer image. Beside the nd filters on the camera i don't know what could help you get a better exposure, but if someone knows a thing about filters then please chime in

Yeah, that sound system was really loud. I shot the interview behind a bus and the PA speakers where on the other side and pointed in the other direction, but they still were blaring loud.

Thats why I said it was a "clip" from a documentary that I am starting. This is just some of the footage that I have gotten so far and depending on the footage that I get in the future it may not even make it into the final product.

And if you had read the original post, you would have seen that it was not color corrected yet and yes, myspace does wash out the image.

First of all, looks good.. Nice job following the bike, I know how hard that is..
NEXT, your above comment almost lead me to leave you no comment.. Talking to people like that will lead people to never look at your work or leave you any comments.. Brush it off as a misunderstanding and move on.. No need to get nasty.. Take the high road dude..

I'd say to loose the autograph signing stuff.. Really looks bad. See tons of noise and the chroma is dancing everywhere. You must have pushed the gain and still it's under exposed..

Yeah, I had to push the gain a lot and it does look less than ideal, but its the only shot that I could think of to use when he starts talking about how popular the sport has become. Im supposed to go back and shoot some more with them later, so maybe I will get a better shot to replace it.
