Doc shooting on F35 for AirBnb

Great work Ed! The story was very engaging. I enjoyed the camera work,
and sitting back forgetting about the technology for a moment to just listen to her story. Well done!

I suppose it depends on the doc. There are documentaries you could shoot on 35mm with a Panavision 11:1, and there are others where an eX3 would be overkill

Nice but there is a HUGE difference between little 1-2 days projects like this and a 5 week long+ doc shoot. Lets keep things honest here.

hahaha i haven't chimed on any comments yet, but this is ridiculous...

you can shoot a doc on whatever the heck you want. it's not like it's mandatory to film any documentary that shoots for 5+ weeks on something smaller than an F35. I'm currently working on some post for a doc that's travelled the world for months now and is shooting all on amira and cinema lenses, which i'm sure at the end of the day is a heavier setup than most F35 setups.

Ha! Vince in L.A. is one tough sell.

But I generally agree with him in the context of "going to work at your job".
Seems to me Vince comments not from a position of 'what could be done' with a tool - but rather 'what it's like to use that tool day-in and day-out'.

I have friends that are shooters in L.A. and from everything I can tell it's a damn pressure cooker. Any ergonomic or workflow shortcoming in your camera will be severely magnified.

I think we should call Vince's reviews "Reviews from the dark side". He gives it in worst-case-scenario terms. And let's face it...sometimes it IS your worst case scenario.
So if a tool doesn't bother Vince - then it probably won't bother anybody. But if it bothers Vince, then in your worst case scenario - it's going to bother you too.

I think there was a breakfast cereal reviewer in the 1970's who worked this way too. I think "Mikey" was his name...

I shoot from the shoulder with the F35 all the time without any issues. I think the fact it is a S35mm camera gets more in they way for docu work than the size of the camera itself, because of focus. Not that S35 is not viable for documentaries. Just trying to emphasize how much of a non-issue the size of the F35 and shooting from the shoulder with it is. I never understood what the big deal is with people complaining about the F35 ergonomics. I much prefer it than cameras that are laid out like news cameras/Betacams. The mass is more centered. With the old SRW-1 recorders it was a beast. But in the digital age it is just fine. But I guess most people complaining must be shouldering just the cube with a small monitor recorder attached. In this case it will naturally be off balance as it is being used in a way it was not designed to be used. But with a recorder on the back and V-mount it balances like an ARRICAM Or Panavision. Add handle grips and you are off to shoot the whole day without issues.
