Do You Think Express Cards will be Around for Long? Are there any significant advantages to it? Sony even addresses the issue in their white paper on the F3. They say something like they believe it to be a viable and future proof medium. I wonder because it's really the market that controls such things.
I got nothing against Express / SxS Cards, but after working with them recently, I feel like there on the margins in regard to popularity and I had to go out of my way to complete my project with SxS. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to working with CF and SD, but it seems like Express only makes up about 10-15% of the market... does that sound about right?
It'd just be so much easier if the industry could narrow it down to one or two types of memory because with all the adapters, readers and writers, I just fell like it gets to be too much for so minor a product. Not that memory is minor in the irrelevant sense, I just mean that there doesn't need to be so many options and that a more uniform standard would benefit everyone... Agree/Disagree?
So far only the MBP 17" offers an Express slot for Mac laptops, and everyone I know in film works off Macs. I've read rumors that they're going to remove it on the next update of MBPs in 2012. I'd much rather have an SD or CF slot, but then again, I'm only going to be getting the 15" MBP so what do I care...
So, do you think Express is here to stay?
