Do you need blackmagic to capture 4:2:2 or 4:4:4

do i need a blackmagic capture card to capture high resolution HD and SD

Blackmagic or AJA. Make sure you get the appropriate PCIe or PCI-X card as needed, and there are model differences between PCI-X and PCIe cards.

Are you saying you'd have to have a capture card to download HD from the camera?

You don't need a capture card to dump P2 footage...But you will need it to handle any HD/SDI monitoring out from the computer. You would also need it if you were trying to ingest HDcam into your system through a deck. The Kona 3 card is the way to go for high end HD work. The Kona 3 matched with a 23" cinema display for monitoring HD out of FCP is pretty awesome.
