Well, if you do and you use P2 cards and the Panasonic AJ-PCD2 card reader, and you've been pulling out you hair trying to make sense of the Panasonic P2 Viewer and/or the P2 Content Management Software, may is suggest,---ShotPut Pro.
It's a hundred bucks, but you'll save on toupes and Rogain!!!:)
It's dead simple.
I'm not dead yet, but I am simple and this works for me simpley wonderfully.
This is not a paid ad for the developers of ShotPut Pro.:dankk2:

Is this directly from camera or using Panasonic P2 card reader?
No problem with files being out of numeric order?
How do you verify that everything is there?
Guess my question is how do you keep track of everything.
You're locking the card as a safety precaution, right.

Directly from the camera. Write-protect the card and then just copy all the contents over. Never a problem.

I use to use firewire, but found USB to be quicker and now pretty much only use that unless I cant find a USB cable, lol. I orgnize my files by folders, with a folder for each project, and a folder for each card, named and dated appropriately. I check all the footage in FCP before I wipe my cards to be safe. Never a problem so far.

I had heard firewire was problematic. Think that's why I stayed away from ingesting directly HPX 170 camera from the beginning.
My workflow with the 16 GB cards was to make a folder on and external HDD using an old Gateway laptop with a PCMCIA slot and copy from there.
Back at the edit suite, create folder on desktop, dump from external to folder on editing machine.

Now, with the 64s I go from P2 card reader directly to folder in editing computer, using (almost afraid to say it for fear I'll set someone off) ShotPut Pro.
Advantage is that using this software I can send data to two drives, so the backup is done, and it verities each take.
Maybe I overbought, but if it saves me from a data disaster just once, then methinks it's worth it.

If you like it, then use it. Copying to two locations at once and doing a data verification is nothing to sneeze at. I use the USB P2 card reader (or a PowerBook with PCMCIA) to copy the data from the P2 card to a hard drive, then copy from that hard drive to a backup drive. So until I wipe the card again (only when I'm ready to shoot on it) I have the footage in three locations. Never lost a single piece ever.

He's back Chuck. Love the smoking jacket and that friendly wag of the tail.

Ahhh.. balance in the universe has been restored...

As for ingestion, I use Maalox (oh, sorry). I usually use the camera to offload to an external, then use the external to copy to my internal.
