Do we have to change the name of this forum of DVXUser site ? :)

After been out for a while I open forum "FS700" and I was thinking that I make a mistake and have got to a wrong place...
Maybe better to rename it to "Convergent-Design Odyssey 7Q" ...and everyone will be happy... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Been on this forum since the FS700 forum was first created. This has to be the funniest post for me....but come on you must admit. The O7Q does go hand in hand with the FS700.

New gear relating to a specific product frequently dominates a forum around the time of release.

Yes, I have to say they go hand in hand. It's going to be pointless to do any projects, much less pixel peeping camera tests without the 7Q because that would just be crippling the FS700. The FS700 is no longer an $8K camera, but more like a $12K camera because of the 7Q.

...actually it's NOT 12K camera ....:cheesy: it is: $8600 + $400 + $12,150 = $21150 camera...

... and keep in mind: for a BALANCE you RIG..... if you add Qdyssey to a FRONT of the RIG, you may need to add another 2-3 kg counterbalance to the opposite side

Imagine I carry those thing around with me trying to shoot handheld with my son. People would call the cop on me thinking he has a weapon of mass destruction in his hand. lol

It's NOT depends of the camera ... it's depends of the LENSES you may have:

....not so big with simple 24-70mm lens ....

....but even a very small camera can be a huge with something else ... :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

...and funny thing is that if I take off Sony Recording SET from my Tilta RIG - I need to place this to be able to shoot handheld :

.. so what I'm trying to make people thinking about : Odyssey is a monitor... so you cannot place it on BACK for handheld shooting ... and when you put two SSD disks in it you will get very heavy piece on front side.. so.. ? :cheesy:

Ok with the Small pocket camera.....that is taking it way too far lol.

Change the name of the forum...too funny. But on point. Perhaps a sub-forum along side the subsequent monitor/recorders to come? Sure, the fanboy expressions of "goes hand in hand, pointless to shoot without it", are reminiscent of the past waves of new hardware/software developments. We've all been early adopters at some point, but ultimately tools are just tools. Anyone else have a Letus paperweight laying around...lol!!

Great work has been done, and is being done, whether we fall prey to the hype now or later.

For us, the camera and lighting are primary components. Hopefully, along with more choices of peripheral hardware, we'll see more in-camera codec development thru firmware updates.

I think that this is wishful thinking. When the firmware update was announced we were all hoping for that 10-bit, the 4:4:2 colorspace and a higher bitrate (50mb) internal codec or even XAVC. Needless to say, NONE of those have come true. I think that Sony is intentionally keeping the capabilities of the FS700 down so it won't get in the way of the Cinealta marketshare because honestly, would you buy an F5 if the FS700 would do 50mbps, 10-bit 442? Maybe you would, but the number of reasons for buying an F5 would be much lower than what they are now.

The reason why the FS700 and the Q7 go hand in hand is because it will enable us to do exactly that what we were hoping from Sony to enable in the FS700 and even more beyond that (4K). Now it will (hopefully) transform from a good device at a hard-to-beat pricerange, into an awesome device that can not even be compared to other cameras in the same-ish pricerange.

"I think that this is wishful thinking." You're right, wishful thinking often has meant the wishes of the public.
And capitalism being what it is...you can be sure there will companies looking to be responsive. Thankfully, Sony
and others have competition to consider, because we now have a ProRes and Raw in camera option available with
BlackMagic. Not a perfect camera by any means, but the implication is clear for Sony and others. GoPro offers 15 cps 4k,
4k TV's can now be had for 3K.

Yup, the future is bright...because we dictate the market with our spending. Trust me...and the history of the market...choices coming soon!$

Well I sincerely hope that you're right but Sony's trackrecord shows otherwise. Also it should be noted that BlackMagic is a different beast entirely and cannot be compared 1:1. That being said, it would be very interesting to see what BlackMagic would be able to come up with if they would make a camera in the same pricerange as the FS700 with the same kind of ergonomics.

Well, who can deny that the Odyssey is not the biggest news item for the FS700 at the moment.

I know that when I bought my 700, one of the first in the US, I was doing so in anticipation of a 4K solution. And now it is within reach.

Big news, lots of excitement.

This does not take away from the 700 or this Forum, it just adds to it. And as Dan Keaton puts it, the biggest target for the O7Q is the FS700. It is like on the EXcam boards when the NanoFlash came out.

I am afraid that the O7Q will probably dominate this forum for a couple months, but then things will settle back down as it is no longer the big story. But the O7Q is definitely now a very big and important part of the 700. And I think it will be for years. And I think it definitely has extended the useful lifespan of the FS700.

So I vote for not splitting the forum up.

The 7Q drastically increased the lifespan of the FS700. It's now a pretty legit lower level cine camera. With the 7Q there's nothing under $15K that can really match it. HFR, S-Log, RAW, 10-bit and 12-bit codecs? So damn good!

Huge thanks to CD!
