Do the newer versions of Photoshop have vector text in them ?

Ive been wondering if the latest versions or does even photoshop 7 or 8 have vecotrized text and shapes to create razor sharp text which wouldnt pixellate on scaling.

Thanks...

Come on guys. Im sure someone should know. Its such a basic question. Or let me rephrase.

Does photoshop offer vector text ?

all text are vector until you rasterize them.
You can als convert them to smart opjects, in version 8 and up.

Milksac, Everts & Matt Grunau > So what all of you mean is that Photoshop CS3 has vector text in them. Because Everts' post makes it sound like the text is vector in all versions. I use version 7 and not CS. So where do i stand ?

Rasterizing a layer converts it to a pixel based layer. When you do this the resolution to that text (or layer) is fixed. If you scale it up the text will degrade, this is because the resolution was fixed at the smaller size. When you use vector based text you can freely scale the layer without degradation.

Ver 7 is really old, I can't remember if it had vector text or not.

To figure out if 7 has vector text:
Create a new doc with a white background. Use the type tool and set some small type in the center of the screen. Then hit ctrl- T to transform the type and scale it up to full screen. If the edges are ugly you have rasterized type layers, if the edges are clean you have vector text.

I believe vector based text was introduced in versions 5.5 or 6.0.
Yes that was way back.

You can also give the manual of version 7.0 a go.

Hey thanks Ill try that out.

Any idea which versions SURE have vector text in them ? Maybe ill try to upgrade to that version.

Thanks again.

Please tell me this entire thread is a joke.

Quick summary

plainman007: Does Photoshop 7 have vector text?

Matt: Yup

plainman007: Does Photoshop 7 have vector text?

Evertz: Yes, it was introduced at version 6.0 (paraphrased)

Milksac > No its not a joke. And nobody but you seems to think so. Plz reread the questions in an strict analytical way before you make such statements. It seems like your joke summary is your own version of the conversation and not even a regular qoute.

This is not a joke. I learned from it. Irrespective of your baseless comments.

Every version of photoshop uses vectors for text it always has since at least version 2.5 in 1992 when they introduced layers. Even before layers were introduced the text was still a vector until you released it's selection.

As long as you don't flatten the image, merge the layer with another or otherwise rasterize a text layer it will always be vectors and therefore scalable.

If you need to combine raster and vector layers you can avoid rasterizing the vectors by converting to a smart object.

I think milk was just pointing out that your question had been answered several times and yet you continued to ask the same question again.

Thanks.

But i didnt continue to ask the same question and thats what puzzles me. I reread the entire thread in detail. Ive only posted 2 replies after my intial question. And i was responding to Everts who mentioned that vector text might have been included in certain versions. So all i did was clear the air on which particular version if it was version restricted. I didnt know the exact answer until i clarified and certainly didnt mean the thread as a trick question of sorts. :)
