Do Premiere Pro and Vista Play Nice?

On the new video editing machine at work I may have the choice of running XP or Vista. I personally like Vista but am wondering if anyone has had major issues running Premiere in it. I am looking solely for performance issues not anything else.

I am running CS3 - not any problems with premiere - works like a charm with vista. anything under cs3 won't run right at all. I had to upgrade to meet my system.

I had PP2 on Vista and it would work (sort of) until trying to export or render. CS3 works very smooth. No problem.

Hi I'm pleased to say I run Premiere CS3 on my laptop with Vista and it runs fine. I have the occasional hiccup with capturing but its very stable on the whole. I run After Effects on it too - I need more RAM (only got 1 gig) but it does what I ask it to. Hope this helps.

So basically as long as I have a beefy system (Dual Xeon Quad Core w/ 4GB ram) it will actually be better to run CS3 on Vista?

yeah I reckon so. As far as I can tell the biggest problem with Vista is the drain on Ram that they o/s takes up - but if you've got 4G of RAM thats not going to be a problem. Are you proposing to edit HD?

THe answer to that is no. But then again I don't think Adobe software plays nice with any OS. Checked my Vista error logs and adobe programs crashed 101 times in the last 30 days (no joke) including 17 times yesterday alone.

I have been on Premiere CS3 and Vista for about a year now and have had no problems, but if I had a choice I would stick with XP. I dont buy all the bad press about Vista, but I have noticed apps running faster on XP vs Vista with all other variables the same.

An adobe Enginner told me that Adobe CS3 Applications are certified to work in Vista.

I currently use The Entire CS3 Suite on Vista 64 SP1 and they run fine. I have not run into any bugs that are windows vista specific yet (With the exception of Adobe Audition CS3)

The question you really need to be asking is "Will all of my hardware have driver support in Vista 32/64?"

Of course, you need to ask your hardware vendors.

Considering the new computer is brand new from Dell shipping with XP and Vista, my hardware should all have Vista drivers.

I run Vista Ultimate 32 bit on my SE laptop with CS3 and its run perfectly fine from the start. only CS3 is certified for vista, and by all means do not try to run 64 bit. but ive had no complaints about vista whatsoever once you shut off the rediculous account management.

I actually had to switch to 64 bit Vista because of all the instability issues I was having with the program only being able to access 2gb of ram. Things got a lot better when I switched to Vista-64

The headaches come in because most hardware doesn't have proper driver support in Vista 64. Just be prepared to upgrade some hardware if everything in your PC wasn't made in the last year.
