Do not want! - Lucas messes with the trilogy again.

Colorizing movies, electronic duets with dead singers, dead celebrities placed in commercials; these are abominations. A guy tweaking his own movies owes the public nothing. Have fun GWL. Tweak to your hearts content.

I dream to make a Star Wars, a Tucker, an American Graffiti and have full control of it. Life is good.
Star Wars fans made George Lucas into a billionaire based on the original trilogy. At the very least he should let them see the original movies that they love.

If Lucas wants to release newly edited, 3D-converted versions of all of his movies, that is fine... as long as he allows the fans access to the originals as well.

I'm not sure how you can say that George Lucas owes the public nothing. The public made him into a billionaire.

Meh. I could care.

Last time I bought starwars was when the original cuts were released on DVD. The only reason I got them was that the bootleg laserdisc transfers I bought from eBay was completely out of sync and I don't own a laserdisc or a VHS player.

But to be perfectly honest, if I still had the old Pan & Scan VHS tapes that I taped from TV in the 80's, I'd rather watch them than these new blu-ray versions.

I just wish he had just remade the original trilogy instead of bothered with special editions. Surely that would have been cheaper and easier than creating all these different versions? I'd rather have him remake them from scratch and release the original trilogy unaltered than this.

He made a movie and people chose to buy a ticket and were entertained. It's an even exchange. Nothing further is owed by either side. George Lucas made George Lucas rich with his talent; not the fans.

Do fans owe poor directors something? After all, they made them poor by not buying tickets.

Hey George, while you're at it, would you mind editing the prequel trilogy a bit? You can just remove Hayden Christensen entirely. And replace Jar-Jar with a talking snail or something.

This snail.

I bought the DVD set a couple of years ago that had the original theatrical releases in a "letterbox" version, and the updated versions in full anamorphic. Very pleased with the set as I can have my original as-I-remember-it-on-VHS version in digital glory, and the "whole 6 film series" version as well. It seriously only cost me like $30 or whatever on the Christmas sale.

Needless to say, there will probably be an unadulterated version on Blu-ray in the next 5 years. He had said previously that the "original" would never be on DVD, but money talks people, and he will cave.

In a way I feel a little bit sorry for Lucas. Endlessly revisiting your one real big artistic/commercial success over and over and over again, to hoots of derision from your work's devoted fans does not sound like a particularly happy place to be. Although of course I am not any particular authority when it comes to what makes George Lucas happy.

I'll stick with my letterboxed low-grade-to-DVD transfer that was thrown to me, bone-like, along with the unwatchable re-dos. I fell in love with the -film-, not the resolution or aspect ratio it might some day come available, in.

Wow, those digital effects on Obi-Wan's voice are HORRIBLE. Let's add a stupid echo over it. It sounds so fake it's not even funny. I think it is WAY worse than the NOOOOOOO!

What I find interesting about the NOOOOOO! is that if you go back and watch films from the 60s/70s, not EVERY LITTLE DETAIL was explained in the movie. They actually let you have to figure out what was going on from the visuals, sound, actions of the character. Watch the original Wicker Man then watch the remake. Same goes with LOTS of remakes, easiest way to see the difference.

In this case, it was more powerful when DV didn't speak. It left the moment open for a bit. Was DV gonna then throw luke off next? :)

This is one of the things I find sad about a lot of newer productions. Let the visuals speak some more. Stop explaining EVERY LITTLE DETAIL!

Can we start a Kickstarter project for this? Or maybe 4...

IF WE RAISE $1,000
We pay someone to rip the Blu-Rays, get the audio from the DVDs without the Noooo, splice that in, and give you a new Blu-Ray or disc image thereof.

IF WE RAISE $50,000
All of the above, except we get each Kickstarter donator so drunkenly hammered that they blot the Noooo out of their memories entirely. We also destroy all the offending Blu-Ray and replace it with a perfectly-printed Nooo-less version.

IF WE RAISE $100,000
We find a 35mm print and digitize it - and send THAT out. Han shoots first!

IF WE RAISE $1,000,000
We hire ninjas to find and free the real George Lucas - and destroy his evil clone that has been perpetrating all of this silliness.
