HAVE I BEEN DUPED?!?!?

Concerning some stuff I shot on the DVX.

In playback on my LCD, and in the viewfider, the
images are well lit and contrasted, with beautiful
warm skin tones, and well behave highlights & blacks -
just like when we shot them and viewed them on the
monitor.

HOWEVER, when playedback thru: another DV camera,
a regular television, and worst of all, into Final Cut Pro,
the images are dark, low contrast, and have a nasty yellow
'cast' over the entire image--

TELL ME I haven't been filming under a false image thru
the DVX---and that I'm not going to be spending my golden
years chasing color correction all over every scene!!!

what is up here? where is the true image?!?!?!
help! sos!

(rrrrripppp ----the sound of hair being pulled out)

:(

I don't know. It's always the opposite for me in that it's more or less WYSIWYG.

I always find it a little brighter on a tv than I thought, which is of course better than underexposing.

Re: DO MY LCD and my viewfinder lie????

I would LOVE to have WYSIWYG---

could it be my settings that have thrown things
so far off?

Re: DO MY LCD and my viewfinder lie????

:-/

I don't know. What exactly are you seeing and how dramatically different is the playback?

Are you using Zebras? One mistake I made early on with the camera is underexposing what I though looked great 'in camera' on the LCD or viewfinder and then on the tv it was always underexposed.

I usually hit the Auto Expose button to start, switch it off and make any adjustments I might need and although I hate Zebras, in the future I will probally hit the button if there are any exposure issues I might be having.

Re: DO MY LCD and my viewfinder lie????

VERY dramatic -
I'm seeing 80% of the contrast lost
and a yellow cast over the entire image---

One other thing...these are dupes recorded
from the DVX onto a Canon XL1 ---I had to send
originals elsewhere----could the Canon be to blame

(BUT keep in mind---the Canon-recorded tapes
STILL look GOOD when played on the DVX LCD)

Re: DO MY LCD and my viewfinder lie????

Personally, I don't put 100% faith in any LCD display (yet). For critical stuff only a properly calibrated CRT monitor will do for me. And, right now, that's your best bet for determining where the problem lies.

Re: DO MY LCD and my viewfinder lie????

Did you white balance your camera? Are the contrast and brightness etc controls set correctly on your TV and or monitor.

Re: DO MY LCD and my viewfinder lie????

..my lcd is also pretty dead accurate. although mine is also brighter on a tv, but i run the cam at 0 ire setup, so the 7.5 setup of the ntsc tele will naturally make the image a bit brighter and washed out by comparison. i have my crt monitor on my nle that displays the nle monitor window set to maximum brightness to match the ntsc monitor output in brightness. its pretty close.

Re: DO MY LCD and my viewfinder lie????

Why not hook your camera up directly to your monitor and/or computer and see what you get directly while also recording to tape?  Then take the tape and capture it and compare.

Just a thought.
