Do I need a SmallHD DP4 if I already have a DP6?

The DP4 is on sale at SmallHD during NAB. I'm debating on scooping one up at the great price. I already have the DP6. But I'm wondering if I should get a DP4 to use as an EVF with my eventual purchase of a shoulder rig, (tentatively the Tilta Rig full DSLR rig.) Any thoughts? Does anyone here have both and see separate needs for both? I'm trying to otherwise think of how feasable it would be to rig my DP6 in front to shoot with the camera over my shoulder.

Thoughts? Does anyone see a distinct use for either or both?

Jon,

We love our DP4 EVF and mount it via a custom "Yoke Mount" that attaches to the 1/4x20 or 3/8x16 threaded holes on the handle of our AF100. If your interested I can email photos.

I would love to see some photos! Could you post them here on the forum for everyone to see?

We tried the shoe mount and strong-arm devices suggested by Small HD but wished we had a more substantial "Studio Style" device for shooting from a tripod. A few days later we came up with our "Yoke Mount"

When we need a shoulder rig we shoot with our GH2. I made the rig so we can use the cameras EVF, it's light as a feather and works great.

I pretty much never shoot without my SmallHD DP6 attached to the AF100. I guess I've gotten used to the extra weight, and it's just so much easier to nail focus with the DP6.

My main issue is with the Noga Arm. I am still looking for a good alternative that allows me to adjust the monitor with one hand easily, and still holds the monitor strongly in place. Any suggestions?

A stiff goose neck like what's used for microphones attached to a podium would be nice. Not sure if it exists but if it was stiff enough and didn't bend very easily it would work.

no reasons to search a lot , there is a cheap and Great solution - edelkrone monitor holder! i recently bought the modula 7 rig , if say true - i dont like it, but 1 extra part that i bought with it - that monitor holder is a perfect solution!!! u just put it on cold shoe of your pany handle and thats it! works great with my DP1x

I've been wondering about the Edelkrone monitor holder. It looked like exactly what I needed, but wasn't sure I believed them.

So you like it and it works well? You would use it over a traditional Noga arm? Got any pics of it on your AF100?

in fact i had/have articulating arm and its exactly the reason why i use edelkrone monitor holder now...... there is just no way u can change the position of the monitor if u use articulating arms - u have to stop and use both hands, plus there are some other minuses... Edelkrone has also videos on Vimeo - there is like a 50 min clip where u ll see him using not just monitor but also sound receiver or mixer under the monitor and all that holds by just that thing..... it really solid
