Do I have to use 50hz in a PAL country?

Only being fairly new to the camera world, can I use 60hz if filming in Australia so I can do 24p?

Most footage is for short films put onto blu-ray (which I believe I play 24p) and the Internet. Some I will convert to DVDs, so I just wanted to know any major benefits for using 50hz in PAL or major drawbacks by using 24p in PAL.

P.s. At this stage I don't anticipate footage for tv unless I do an Ad. Feedback appreciate as I'm confused by it all

It doesn't matter where you are when you shoot 24p, just make sure you match the shutter speed to the hz on the lights.
50 fps or 25 fps is important if you're going to broadcast. PAL is 25p or 50i, HDTV 720 50p and 1080 50i, and I think it will take years before they broadcast 1080 50p atleast where I live.
