Do I need Compressor 3 and DVD Studio Pro 4 to work with HVX footage? I currently have Compressor 2 and DVDSP 3.

Basically, I just want to know if I need the latest versions of these applications.

You need FCP 4.5 to work with DVCProHD footage, and 5.0.4 or later to work with p2 card import.

Without the DVCProHD codecs, you cannot view HVX200 footage.
 
5.0.4 is the minimum requirement, but really you should have 5.1.x (universal binary). Apple in their own white pages mentions a rendering problem that can occur with HVX200 footage (P2, not the miniDV tapes) that is imported using 5.0.4. But you definitely don't need FCP 6/Compressor 3.
