Do I Have To Render Clips With Every Change?

When layering video in the timeline, for example, putting b-roll over a voice track, is there any way to view the change without having to re-render every time. I am used to being able to see my changes to decide if I like them but every time I make even the smallest change, like moving a clip over just a bit or extending a clip, FCP tells me I have to re-render. It's so tedious and time consuming. Is this just the way of FCP or is there a way to view my changes as I make them? Thank you for any help!

Rendering usually occurs when your sequence settings don't match your video attributes.

What cam did you shoot with? What codec and frame rate are your video clips and what are your sequence settings?

And I trust you are not trying to edit h.264.

I've been seeing ur posts a lot recently and it seems that everytime FCP doesn't do what you want, you throw a hissy fit. I'm not trying to insult you but it's kind of annoying. If you are working with different types of clips, convert them into a format Final Cut will like instead of trying edit with clips not meant for Final Cut. Also if you want to see what you edits look like before having to render, enable the Quickview window from the window drop down menu and set an in and out point for the range of video you want to playback. It's a very helpful tool and I learned that from Larry Jordan. I believe he is someone you can benefit from learning from. Here is his site: www.larryjordan.biz. I seriously recommend you also invest in some Lynda.com training. Abba Shapiro has incredible training on how to navigate through Final Cut Pro whether you are a pro or new to the program.

Ha, ha, ha! You're totally right. Thanks to the great help I've gotten here, I'm finally making friends with Final Cut. I actually did join Lynda.com and was watching the tutorials and following along but I was really frustrated because the issue I was having wasn't addressed in the tutorials. Anyway, got it squared away for now and I'm starting to see the silver lining. Thanks again for all the help and patience!!!
