Im a senior in high school and just finished a short film for the end of the semester in the unit of philosophy. shot on a DVX->color corrected in fcp-> magic bullet. i hope i dont get shafted too much for this one but i like it. especially with headphones on in the dark :)

there are two major themes in it, but id like to see if any of them come across from my fellow filmmakers to see if i succeeded in portraying even one of the ideas. if you undertsand everything after watching it once i feel i have not done a good job.
heavily compressed, here it is in .mp4: 5 minutes long.

note: forgot to cut the music at the end.... goes on for like an extra 20 seconds, nothing happens
right click and download the stickypod .mp4
http://www.stickypod.com/stickypod_... 1-MPEG-4 Improved NTSC Large Progressive.mp4

you might want to try posting this clip on another (easier to download) server, like 'putfile' or 'stickypod'.... just a thought, cuz all that hassle of clicking this and that and having to wait is probably going to limit the amount of feedback you get.

Anyway, I'm downloading now...

sorry, didn't really know how to serve files so my friend set up that link for me. i had my own server but couldnt afford it in the longrun so all these free servers are all the same to me, ill try stickypod or putfile

In that case, you have done a good job!

I'm not a big fan of having to figure a film out, but I will say that I liked a lot of the shots and the look of it, the sound (that voice) was not to my liking, but hey, it's your piece. Opening shot was cool, was everything handheld, and did you do any lighting?

a lot of shots were on a tripod, but many of the zooms/frantic focuses were handheld. and thanks for watching!

edit: no lighting. i think it came out particularly well for not having any external lighting. actually, the lighting on the dvd looks great. (ew, i meant to say everything instead of anything)

Man, I wonder. These are some good questions your asking in this here video! No I'm just kidding, I have no idea what its about, except maybe super mario brothers and divine revelation, but other than that....I'm stumped.

I kinda liked a few ideas but that's about it. The shots were too long and there wasn't really something that would have kept me watching until the end (well I watched the whole thing, but only because out of respect in your project).

I was bored, sorry =/

I didn't get it. I'll have to agree with the others who have said that it was boring. Your shots were ok, but nothing about the "story" (if there was one) held my interest. But this is your piece and it has meaning to you and I'm sure you have some deeper meaning to it. You accomplished your goal though. I'm absolutely confused.

Watch some of your compositions. also watch the sound design, dynamic range is imperative to a film but if it overloads my speakers, it's distracting. Also make the head bump sound like it's in the room, not close mic'd. Very nice work my friend!

whats funny is that him bumping his head was real and unexpected because he really was trying so hard. thats the actual room audio from my at897. it was hilarious at the time, but now it really worked out. I agree, some of the shots were sloppy and i wish i could reshoot them, but oh well it was due today. it was supposed to be an idea from a philosphy book we're reading called Sophies world, and i used the idea that freud/berkeley proposed of dreams as an alternate reality/ is reality really as we percieve it, and the pilosophy of cause and effect createing mans synthetic perception of Time itself.

An underlying theme had to be the human race's need to create.
