Other: Do FS7 Batteries Work With the FX9?

Have my first FX9 Rental coming up and need to confirm
that BP-U60 batteries from the FS7 will work with the FX9??

Also, will the older Sony G 128GB XQD Cards Work with the FX9?

Thanks for your help!

No the batteries won't. The FX9 requires 19V and batteries need to be designed for it or get a back with it that takes a V mt.
The cards are fine.

Unless I'm mistaken the batteries will *absolutely* work with the FX9. You may get shorter runtimes but that's it.

drboffa - have you experienced that they work?
Mine are third party but i can't imagine why they would be any different than OEM.
Wish they did work - I would have saved a bunch of $'s. Would love to be wrong.

3rd party V mount adapters have transformers that boost the voltage.
You may be able to buy an adapter cable now that will boost the voltage and if your battery has a Dtap it can send it to the Aux power in on the FX9.
Even that plug is different on the FX9 because its designed for a higher voltage.
I think I've seen these on the web but you'd have to search.

Hmm... Then you're probably right. I stand corrected.
The FX9 must have an internal circuit to up the voltage that only works for the internal connection.
My batteries were early , before the 3rd party batts learned the Sony voodoo to be able to work internally, so while they look like standard Sony batts and fit into the rear slot for batts, they needed an external wire to plug into the Aux power in.
So the answer depends on whether your batteries will work as "native" then.

Yeah I don't claim to know how exactly the FX9 handles power, internal battery, v-mount, or otherwise. I do know it's more power hungry than the FS7, but that's about it.

The safest bet is always to test yourself, since as you note there might be batteries that don't work.

Mmmmmm...yes they do work. I use mine daily. I use both the 60's and 90's and they work fine...even the BPU 30's (that they said wouldn't work) do work. It is a power hungry camera so keep in mind that you'll get about half the battery life in the Fx9 that you would in the Fs7...so bring a bunch or a multi charger. As a result i ended up getting a battery plate for gold mounts...

Thanks for straightening me out on that. I pride myself on being pretty together technically but that tricked me. Since my FS7 batteries all needed the plug wire they didn't work on the FX9 because the FX9 Power Plug port ( I'm calling it Aux power) requires 19V. At first there weren't any V mt adapters when I got my FX9 so I bought a few 3rd party batts that were the Sony BPU style that were rated for the FX9 so i just assumed they were 19V. I never even tried them in my FS7 or EX-1 till tonight. Of course you're right and they work in all 3 cameras. That stands to reason as Sony wouldn't have the same battery slot for different voltage batts - then someone would fry their FS7 .
I ended up getting a Core V mt adapter as well, so now can go either way.
