DNxHD Export?

Can you output clips that have been converted into the DNxHD codec (in Xpress Pro) into other programmes, After Effects, Combustion etc? Or can you only use this codec within the Avid range?

Thanks.

to the best of my understanding, when I asked this question of the Xpress Pro product manager at NAB, he said it is a QuickTime codec same as any other (this was specifically reference to Mac OS X, not WinXP version).

G'day Mike.

If that's the case, then it should work as a standalone file and not be software exclusive...yes?

Sounds very un-Avid-like if it is that way as it doesn't lock you into using only their product.

Thanks.

DNxHD is the compression technology. Avid use MXF as the native media file wrapping format inside the Avid NLE's for DNxHD, but have also produced a Quicktime version of the codecs for use outside of Avid. When you import back to Avid all it will be doing is unwrapping the Quicktime and re-wrapping in MXF.

The codecs are available for both PC and Mac, but at this time have only been posted for free download for the PC. If you need the Mac codecs they come with Xpress Pro 5.5 and will almost certainly appear on Avid.com soon:
