Hi,

has anyone tried the DJI Lidar autofocus and how in compares to other in-camera autofocus systems? It's clear that it will have its limitations. Question is, is there a noticeable difference compared to the autofocus in say a Sony Fx6 with a decent autofocus lens?

LiDAR, at the moment, does its job on a "first come, first serve" basis. In other words, it focuses on a nearest subject within about 20 feet (6 meters).

FX-6 has been out a while, but A7RV has ability to memorize a particular figure or face and only focus on it regardless of other subjects in the frame. There's a limit on the distance and the amount of light. LiDAR, on the other hand, works in the dark.

The next generations of LiDAR will likely improve on the distance.
