Django Unchained

Yes but it would take more screen time to develop the story building her character which would detract from the current script. A matter of choice/writing I guess. :)

Well, it was 2:46 IIRC...and I remember thinking that some scenes were a bit drawn out. Especially the insane climactic shootout, which I suppose might lose some of its presumably intentional absurdity if it were less insanely drawn out. But with at least 2:46 to play with in the editing room, I'm pretty sure a deeper character/story arc for her could have been accommodated if QT had wanted it to.

It's kind of a quibble though...QT's dedication to superb cinema is still well evident this film IMO...

If there was a "Like" button I would have hit it. So...Like.

Just seen this film and must say it was done in POOR TASTE. As a fan of his past movies he simply crossed the line with this one. After the Dog attack on the Black Slave who no longer wanted to fight I knew it was time to go.....

Never have I felt so disgusted watching a Movie with such dark comedy and twisted violence. I'm a fan of gangster movies, sex, drugs, crimes etc..... This one though just felt horribly.

Saw it last night and being a spaghetti western fan I was disappointed. Blaxplotation and absurd use of the ngr word in a western context didn't do it for me.

I'm surprised people are so angry in relation to the language. I mean in reality just a couple of years before the civil war, it would be something that's often heard in public. But we also do live in a world where people tried to censor Huck Finn for school libraries.

Tarantino does not make himself easy to love. Took me quite a while myself. I think the key is understanding that what he depicts is emotionally 'a step removed'. He is extraordinarily brave in that regard, putting out his borderline satirical take on very serious, dark things. It's what make him unique, but very hard to swallow for many.

My $.02

Agree 100%. Some of the things in the movie seemed horrible, but anything in the movie is probably just scratching the surface of the terrible things that actually went on. People also have to keep in mind that in other movies depicting the same time period and issues, the black hero was never allowed to be vengeful when they had their chance. When those other films were made the hero was a "turn the other cheek" type. Tarantino checked the barometer of that thinking and called BS, like anyone would if being realistic about it. Basically a person would be: - "You enslave me, kill my family members, treat me like garbage....guess what? Watch the ...k out!"

I really enjoyed this. Not as great as Inglorious Basterds but still entertaining. Jamie Fox could of stepped up his acting a bit. And Tarantino no matter what should never appear in his films, his acting is as bad as my acting.

But the only thing I wish is that Sam Jackson had more screened time. He was by far the best thing the movie had to offer. I am very shocked he wasn't nominated for anything. Maybe because his screen time was so short but man I loved his character.

Ah, Tarantino's go-to supporting player Christoph - not to be confused w/ his other supporting player Phistoph (aka Sam Jackson). #OscarNoms

Jackson is the star of the movie. His character controls everything that goes on at Candy Land. The big reveal is when Jackson's character stands up without the cane. it's all just an act and he has always been the one pulling the strings at Candy Land. Who gets upset about taking Django's wife out of the box? Who is the one that wants to punish Django even more than castrating him?

A little late to the party, but I finally saw it and I loved it. Violent and funny. One his best IMO

^ I agree .. finally got to see it in a Super Cinema here and loved it. Sheer entertainment borrowing from the old style serial westerns,
complete with bright red shadow credit fonts and the music breaks.

Great performances and QT is the only one who could do it like that today, and get away with it.
He doesn't flinch when a line is indistinct, he just plants a line of subtitle. lol.

Came across this which says a lot .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_Unchained

And I'd say he had Waltz as a German in mind from the get go before the first word. Great team.
Does QT use Final Draft? If so he shoulda said so at the awards, give us poor Inglorious Bastards a leg up.

Cheers.
