Trailer is out. Looks like it could be fun, but I think I was expecting something a little more raw and realistic. I don't know why, as Tarantino has never been known for gritty realism. This looks very movie fake to me. That could be good or bad. But hell, it's QT. I'll go see just about anything the guy makes.

I purposely did not read the script this time around. I made the mistake with the last one, loved it, and assumed that Robert Richardson would go crazy with the camera like in Kill Bill, only to come out of the theater a little disappointed.

I've got high hopes for this one though, and I love the little Franco Nero cameo in the trailer!

You didn't like Inglourious? For me, it's easily Tarantino's best film.
 
Looking at the trailer a few more times, I think it's the silly tone in the second half of the trailer that put me off a little. That tone may or may not be reflective of the film. Marketing always wants to try and cram all the jokes and pratfalls into a trailer to pitch the film as broadly as possible, leaving little time for the more patient and articulate qualities of QT's films.
 
Yeah I didn't like "Inglourious Basterds" and I don't have a good feeling about "Django Unchained". Subjecting such serious subjects as the Second World War and Slavery to a lighthearted revisionist treatment takes a very deft touch that I am not sure that QT has.

And Batutta, "...Tarantino has never been known for gritty realism.". Really, did you not see "Reservoir Dogs"?

I don't know about QT... I really did not care for "Death Proof" either, especially when directly presented with "Planet Terror", which was terrific. I will go see "Django Unchained", but really, I believe I am more of a fan of Robert Richardson, ASC than I am of QT anymore. I hope I am wrong about it.
 
Christmas? Wow - long lead time. If I pay too much attention now, I'll feel like I've already seen the movie and it's from last year by Xmas ....

Time to tune out. Maybe I'll go watch the Hunger Games trailer now .... :)

some people just like horror, i thought planet terror was off base and 'over the top cheese' but in a bad way. disjointed, boring, shallow, etc..

death proof on the other hand captured classic indie exploitation to the T (except the over use of scratches). people who expected a b horror went to the wrong movie, that's not the movie's fault. that's how the double feature worked, the first movie was slower paced and took it's setup more seriously.

I would not call Reservoir Dogs gritty realism. I love that movie but I don't see it taking place in any reality other than QTs own movie universe.
 
sorry GRINDHOUSE was billed as grind house gritty fun laugh at the screen movies, watch with friends with pizza and beer and have a good time. When I saw it in theaters planet terror was first everyone loved it, then death proof proceeded to suck all the life out of the room with his "what I would have done if I had made a b movie in the 70's" well that's all good and well but I though I was being promised a fun poke at the era not an attempt to beat it out by making a good b movie... mah Death proof wasn't horrible just not expected or welcomed after sitting in the theater that long, plus it was really sad when the main character and hero was killed by those annoying girls at the end... oh and did anyone in that movie even think to hit the breaks?

... sorry OT rant, Django looks like a fun romp that doesn't take itself to seriously looking forward to it.

A serial killer is your hero...but hot girls who talk too much and fight back against their deranged stalker you can't stand?...Oooookay....
 
It's a joke but despite being a killer I liked him more than all the girls in this movie. I'm not saying it's right I was just very tired of listening to girl talk for 3/4's of the movie, I get enough of that in real life don't need to pay for it. To each their own the characters were not for me, the cinematography the crash scene's and many other aspects were pure beauty. I guess I was just upset that anyone was killed by him there was no reason(besides rose mcgowan), hey some guy is tailgating us now he's beside us trying to ram us, hit the brakes, stop pull out a cell phone call the cops, grab weapons and wait, I don't know anything but trying to speed up and beat him at his own game. If this was seven or something you are right cheering for him would make no sense but to me it's like cheering for the zombie when it's slowly about to get the dumb annoying guy who is going out when he's not supposed to.

I guess it was also staying with the first group of girls as long as he did bothered me as we had to then get into knowing yet another group kind of like his own psycho but it just didn't work for me, perhaps that's it.

Don't get me wrong violence against women is horrid but we all watch and enjoy many things in movies that we abhor in real life.

I wasn't entirely sure if you we're joking and it was an odd choice of words. I'm not going to defend Death Proof. I liked the car chase stuff and Kurt but it was forgettable. Django is getting great reviews, not only from critics but a few people I know who have seen it.
 
I love the cast of Django, can't wait should be good, very good. Yeah it was supposed to be a throw away joke but sadly I did not put the effort in to make it clear, and with my refusal to use emoticons it can sometimes be difficult to indicate my tone, sorry.
 
I am going to see this for sure...very excited about it. Death Proof and elements of some of QTs more recent movies have been disappointing to me. When I saw the 1st Trailer for this, I thought...cool! Can't explain it...it just looks like a throwback to his earlier stuff (yes...even though it's a western!)
 
Saw it tonight at an advanced screening. So bloody good. Very funny as well.
I love Christoph Waltz. He's so likeable in this film.

Foxx is great. Jackson is great. DiCaprio is great.
Jackson definitely pulled off some of the biggest laughs in the movie. The packed house gave it a hearty round of applause at the end and there were a few moments that received a few claps throughout. Like all of Tarantino's stuff, it's not for everyone. But I loved it. :)
