DIY Steadicam

Very well done. I think I may try to make one, but I highly doubt it'd work with any larger camera. I have a friend with a Mark II so I'll see if I can play around with hers.

Works very well from the looks of it and I sold my Merlin because I wasn't satisfied with it either.

I've been using a tripod as a temporary solution for handheld shots. I'm just holding the tripod mid shaft below the head and my wrist performs the task of a gimble. I can't run around with it but I can shoot with a 105mm lens which was impossible without lots of rolling shutter just trying to use the D90 handheld.

Very nice. Are you still able to adjust focus with your steadicam? Do you have pics of your diy?

No you can't adjust focus while using it, you can see 2 pics of it next to the video on the right, just scroll down a bit.

Can you describe why that Diy version is better then the Merlin - maybe it is heavier for example

it seems to be the same concept - but cheaper of course

S

Its the same concept, but for me its easier to handle, I can use it with only one hand, I mean panning, turning, up and down with only one hand, I wasn't able to do that with the Merlin.

Of course its a bit heavier but not that much, for my needs it perform well. Its not an easy task to build it, lots of trials and errors, but I'm satisfied with the final result.

For a fraction of the price of a Merlin... for me its worth it.
