Cheers DVXusers,

i am looking for some detail drawings or engineering drawings for a rodsupport and a mattebox. Does anybody know where to get one?!

In case i had those i'd build those myself. I'd also publish a diary and detailed "howto"s

Thanks!
Garry

Yeah, unless you have access to massive CNC machines its going to be hard. If you had manual machines it would be possible but you would need to be a very skilled and accurate machinist to make sure the rods are the right spacing and paralel.

Someone did make a rod mount system using screw down hose clips....

actually my girlfriend is a locksmith. I showed her the parts from "known companies" and she said that it would be extreemly easy to build them.

Have she a sister?? It would be handy to have girlfriend like that, also..

:love4:

Yeah they are simple shapes, if you have a CNC machine it will cut it out in a few mins with no problems, the major thing about hand milling something like that is getting the spacing between the two holes right, getting the bore of the holes right and making sure the holes in the aluminum is square so the two rods are truly parallel, its a real challenge to hand make something that accurately...

but still. well, yeah she has a sister, but she works at a hotel :).

anyway.

we had the idea building prototypes for a rod-support, dolly and fullrigsteadycam.
And, yeah she has CNC machine. That was her idea. just letting anything beeing scanned and letting it being rebuilt by the CNC. Because of the fact that common rod supports e.g. are copyright(ed) you cant just scan em. i am quite good at 3d-modeling so i would predo a shape in 3d and letting it the cnc rebuilt it. But i dont know the exact propotions and so on.

If it turns out well, you should sell them. Once you have the 3-d model, it couldn't be that hard to run off a couple more with the CNC.

I have successfully make my own rod. From my point of view, it is not really worth making your own rod system. CNC is expensive. unless you are going to make a lot of them then it will be worth while making your own rod.

If I could make 100 of them at a time then sale it for $500 a set. I paid much more than that to get the prototype made. Actually I need a rod system but no one in my hometown have it in stock. The nearest stock the manage to find is in singapore which is a week away from Bangkok. So the solution is to design and built my own rod in catier and rent the cnc time for one hour.

For a 80cm rod with monitor bracket, battery tray for the monitor, and a sholder pad + hand grip
