DIY preamp?

I'm with you. They can get away with that price because it is a very tiny niche market, and that is what the "production market" will bear. That is a prime candidate for DIY, at least for me. Of course others here scoff at DIY, even here in the DIY forum. :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

Do you have any electronics background? Can you make it cheaper and with as good electrical specs is the question? I worked in electronic engineering R&D labs for many years as an engineering technician. I helped with researching and building circuits for the cable TV industry and space flight communications. There is a lot of research and development that goes into even a little gizmo like this. $60 doesn't seem so bad to me for this...

Yes you can do it.. maybe not cheaper. Considerations to keep in mind: It's a preamp... so it must use an amplifier that is extremely low noise and has a very low total harmonic distortion rating across the audio spectrum with the output voltage that you are looking for. 10 Hz to 20 Khz. You have to filter and shield the B+ or B- line with good bypass capacitors. Now the thing is, can you make this preamp as clean as the $60 gizmo? There are a lot of technical considerations to getting this right. Maybe someone has a kit or a schematic available for a DIY version...

Just my 2 cents...

true, it's pretty sweetly small...I just thought with so many preamp kits out there that a small one such as this existed for less.
